Sintesi dell'editore
Norse mythology forms the delicate backbone of countless modern stories. Fascinating, dramatic and deliberate, with a gripping tension and vitality, the best-selling author of American Gods brings these Norse tales to life.
The great Norse myths are woven into the fabric of our storytelling - from Tolkien, Alan Garner and Rosemary Sutcliff to Game of Thrones and Marvel Comics. They are also an inspiration for Neil Gaiman's own award-bedecked, best-selling fiction. Now he reaches back through time to the original source stories in a thrilling and vivid rendition of the great Norse tales. Gaiman's gods are thoroughly alive - irascible, visceral, playful and passionate - and the tales carry us from the beginning of everything to Ragnarök and the twilight of the gods. Galvanised by Gaiman's prose, Thor, Loki, Odin and Freya are irresistible forces for modern listeners, and the crackling, brilliant writing demands to be heard around an open fire on a freezing, starlit night.

Great book, easy to listen to with good stories.
Loved listening to Norse Gods. I could do so over and over again. The narrator does a good job, keeping it interesting. The stories do not go in an order so you can choose which story to listen to next and go back and forth in between them.

A Rich History of the Gods
Wonderfully told. Wonderfully read. What is otherwise a tedious headscratch of ancient tales are transformed into fantastical tales.

Simply superb
I loved it. Mythology is fascinating enough, but is at another level thanks to Gaiman's obvious love for it.

Simply amazing.
I've read several of the stories as a child, but I can not remember them being this entertaining. Very well written and expertly performed.

The Old World's Gods and their shenanigans
Neil Gaiman's narration is superb. Not to be perceived as a voice actor, he doesn't voice all the characters differently, (major characters do get their own voices) it is clear he loves telling a good story. This book, which is a collection of short stories, covers the essence of the Norse myths. Gaiman's retelling is soothing, hilarious, even harrowing when it needs to be. An easy recommendation.

Meraviglioso

Norseome
Neil, tells the stories of the Norse Gods with ease and in his own relaxed style that, in my opinion, bring the characters to life in a way that relates to now, its current..and I, for one absolutely loved it...I've read all the classic tomes on North Mythology, poetic Eddas, Sagas, quite heavy going for even the most dedicated seekers of the Nordic Deities ..!
I recommend pouring a large glass of mead, throwing a log on the fire, sitting back and be transported back to the world at it's very beginning with Ginnunganap, until its end with the coming of Ragnarok.
Skäl! :)

Blood and ice and lots of mead!
Great myths, so many so similar to other modern tales and yet so distinct and rowdy. Made me want to go back to Iceland!

it's ok.
Some stories are ok but not as accurate as other books. starting with referencing a freaking comic... Not a great start.... Looking for a more accurate portrayal, try- The Viking spirit.

Great stories, incredible adaptation.
Of course Neil Gaiman is a great writer. But when he tells the story himself you can feel the personality of each character. I especially enjoyed the shift in Thor's tone from unintelligent and slightly playful to serious as the book progressed.

Amazing tales from the North
What did you like most about Norse Mythology?
I love the way that Neil Gaiman has updated the stories and made them accessible, whilst still being true to the originals.
What other book might you compare Norse Mythology to, and why?
Almost like a book of fairy tales, but for adults
Which character – as performed by Neil Gaiman – was your favourite?
Thor; I love the way he just wants to hit things with his hammer.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Watch out, the Gods are back...
Any additional comments?
I love anything by Neil Gaiman and this definitely does not disappoint.

If in doubt, blame Loki
It seems from the other reviews that Gaiman's narration is a bit controversial, but I personally really liked his reading style.
These are great adaptations of the myths - a tad more adult/gory than the last time I read them, aged roughly 12 (!), but certainly not distasteful for anyone who is concerned - and the tone of the stories is brilliant. I laughed aloud with a lot of regularity, and the ever-popular dynamic between Thor and Loki is played very effectively; I get the feeling that Gaiman really likes Loki, and this version of the stories rather makes me do so too, much of the time.
It's hard to pick a favourite story out of the group as well; some of the tales here are totally new to me and learning them was fascinating, but you also have to love the old favourites, like Thor travelling to the lands of the giants. Ragnarok in particular feels very prescient right now, and that moment of hope at the very end was truly bittersweet in the best possible way. It's worth six and a half hours of your time, very, very easily.

Mixed opinion
I got this as a follow on to listening to Mythos which I thoroughly enjoyed but in comparison these stories were not as interesting and more confusing. Particularly when it comes to inconsistent timelines and the general size and strength of characters. Good if you want to know a bit more about Norse mythology but not if you're a fan of any of the Thor marvel films.

Sibilated S sounds
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
I love Neil Gaiman's books but I've discovered my ears are too sensitive for his siblated S sounds, I was cringing until I gave up a quarter of the book through. It could be just me...
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I will read it in print instead.
