The first time I took a man's life, I knew there'd be no going back, no normal existence in the cards for me. Instead of walking away, I climbed a mountain of bodies and created my own destiny by forming The Alliance. And I was fine with that, content enough to carry on.
Until I stepped through those open doors, and into her life.
I should've walked away. Should've gone right back out the door I came through. But I didn't. And now her life is in danger. That's the thing about being a bad man. I'll happily paint the streets red to protect what's mine.
And Payton is mine. Whether she knows it or not.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt more disgusted by a character’s actions and dialogue than I did with Nero!
First of all, the pet name “sweet girl” made my skin crawl!! it sounded infantilizing, as if he were talking to a child. Then we get to the scene where he tastes her virgin blood!!!!!! 😐🤢 I genuinely had to pause the audiobook because I felt nauseous. I’m still confused about what the f*** author was trying to achieve with that moment!!
And the constant repetition of “virgin hole,” she gave me her “innocence,” and “virginity” was unbearable. It felt obsessive and uncomfortable rather than romantic or sensual!
Honestly, it’s one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
As for the FMC, she gave me absolutely nothing. Yes, she grew up in an abusive household and has trauma, but that doesn’t excuse how passive she was. She barely reacted to having a stalker, and she practically handed herself over to him as if it were some kind of obligation. You’ve lived alone your whole life, terrified of everyone, and yet you leave your balcony door open for your stalker to come in and take your virginity? Make it make sense!!! 😐😐😐
And don’t even get me started on the “I love you” declarations after only a few days and a handful of encounters. The whole relationship felt rushed, forced, and completely devoid of chemistry. Nero and Pae did nothing for me! zero connection, zero spark!!
The only character who actually intrigued me was King, which is the only reason I pushed through instead of DNF’ing. I’m genuinely looking forward to his book, because this one felt like a joke from start to finish!
the rating is really doesn't make sense! if I had a choice I wouldn't give even 1 star to this book!! I hope that other stories in the series are good and don't make me regret it!!
