Sintesi dell'editore
Despite their investigative prowess, Scotland Yard's Chief Inspector Michael Sinclair, Lord Acton, and rookie detective Kathleen Doyle stir more than a few feathers at CID Headquarters when their relationship comes to light. But office politics quickly become trivial when a rash of underworld murders shatters London's normally austere façade.
With a growing list of successfully solved cases to her name, the ever-dauntless Doyle shakes off the gossip and sets out to investigate the escalating turf war. As the body count climbs, Doyle uncovers a seedy world where fractious members of the Russian Mafia and an Irish terrorist group are fighting for control of a lucrative underground business. But their crooked deals and volleying acts of revenge are almost too much for Scotland Yard to keep up with, and when Doyle notices that Acton seems unusually troubled by the crimes, she begins to wonder what sparked the conflict in the first place.
Perhaps there's nothing more to the murders than under-the-table business dealings gone awry. Or perhaps a single act of vigilante justice fanned the flames that ignited a vicious turf war. As Doyle and Acton fight to not become the next victims, they'll find that the truth may be best left unspoken and retribution may be best left to fate.

If you like chick lit
The 1st book was mediocre, this one awful. She spent most of her time on sex and bitchy women. Even the reader seemed to drone on. I finally speeded up the narration just to get it over with. I will waste no more time or money on Cleeland.

Heavy on drama, light on mystery
I really enjoyed the 1st in the series and anxiously awaited this sophomore effort. However, as a mystery lover, I felt this book fell a bit flat. The mystery was tertiary in the book, following the relationship drama of the newlywed protagonists, Acton and Doyle, and the internal politics at the police station. Cleeland makes up for the thin mystery with wonderful writing (although Doyle has a few too many internal monologues, I found those to be the most amusing bits in the book.)
Overall, I enjoyed this book and loved "visiting" again with these characters, but I hope we see more police procedural in the 3rd entry in this series and less family drama.
Marcella Riordan is FABULOUS. She handles a range of voices, male and female, with aplomb. I plan to see out other books she has narrated.

This isn't much of a mystery
This is really a romance novel with all together too many boring sex scenes. Not my cup of tea.

Fun Psychopathic Romance & Mystery
Listen to first book first. Enjoyable off kilter detective & romance novel. Really enjoyed. I can't wait for the fourth installment. The first 3 left me wanting more.

Not as Good as the First
Would you try another book from Anne Cleeland and/or Marcella Riordan?
Yes, I would try another book because I love the first book. But this one just didnt hit the mark for me. I want them to solve crimes that don't circle back to them.
Would you recommend Murder in Retribution to your friends? Why or why not?
No, but I would recommend Murder in Thrall
What does Marcella Riordan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I enjoy her voice and the life she brings to each person.
Could you see Murder in Retribution being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.

Obviously a continuation
This book was just a tad repetitive, in part. You absolutely need to have read the first book to appreciate the background of this one. Additionally, it "ends", but without an ending. I feel as though the book was written to be part of a tied in series.
"Murder in Retribution" was a little bit of a slog, at first, as I needed to tie in the first of the series, which I had read some time ago.
I did enjoy the narration. Marcella Riordan does a very good job of changing accents, between the Irish, Oxbridge, and "lower class". In the same vein, the author manages to mix in quite a number of Irish phrases to provide a real sense of place.
Frankly, I can't wait for the next chapter.

Love this series
I love this series, very unusual characters and I'm a fan of British mysteries. The reader is quite good although at times her accents are a bit much. Very enjoyable listen with a few surprises.

Now What you'd expect in a mystery #2
I went from #1 - to #2 -to #3 without a pause in-between. They don't exactly deserve 5 stars, but they don't deserve less, either. They are just different enough to keep you glued, and totally enjoyable to say the least.

Improbable ripping yarn
Almost like cartoon characters & how many Irish people talk like that these days especially in a city like London where pavements are not sidewalks.

May be for you - def not for me
I tried- I really tried to listen to this book the whole way thro. I’m a young 60 if you are older you may enjoy this book. To my ear it expressed morays of the years before 1970s. Had it been based in this period it might have worked better but not when written based in the present day. There can’t be a 24 year old ( age of the main female character) in the Uk who speaks/behaves like this!
Give it a miss there are plenty of other books to fill your time with.
PS narrator copes well with what she has to work with

Gave up after half an hour
I’m not one to throw the towel in but I couldn’t listen to this book for more than a few minutes.
The bit I heard was preposterous and it annoyed me too much to continue.

Awful - don’t waste your time
Full of Americanisms such as Sidewalk and Highway. Doyle appears to be living in 19th century Dublin whilst her husband is a part-time psychopath whilst continuing to perform DCI duties for the Met.
I listened to the first so thought I would get the second. Both stories bugged me. Unbelievable Nonesense. Some of the worst crime fiction I’ve ever heard!
