What happens when an innocent schoolgirl is desperate to escape her country during the fall of Saigon? What could cause her to have second thoughts and want to stay behind? How does she finally resolve herself to leaving? What are the chances of this girl being rescued and airlifted toward a new life in America?
Mimi and Her Mirror, by Uyen Nicole Duong, creates a poetic blend of memoir and fiction in this richly told novel of courage and heartbreak, hopelessness and redemption. It is the story of Mimi Sean Young - formerly Mi Chau Suong Giang in her native tongue - a successful Houston attorney whose life begins to crumble under the weight of her painful childhood. Told by Mimi, the story pulls listeners into the history of Vietnam and its controversial war, shares with us a country rich with culture while we follow one young girl’s life…and one woman’s painful journey toward happiness.
