Sintesi dell'editore

Long Black Curl is the latest installment in Alex Bledsoe's acclaimed urban fantasy series, where magic is hidden in plain sight and age-old rivalries simmer just beneath the surface.

In all the time the Tufa have existed, only two have ever been exiled: Bo-Kate Wisby and her lover, Jefferson Powell. They were cast out, stripped of their ability to make music, and cursed to never be able to find their way back to Needsville. Their crime? A love that crossed the boundary of the two Tufa tribes, resulting in the deaths of several people.

Somehow, Bo-Kate has found her way back. She intends to take over both tribes, which means eliminating both Rockhouse Hicks and Mandalay Harris. Bo-Kate has a secret weapon: Byron Harley, a rockabilly singer known as the "Hillbilly Hercules" for his immense size and strength, who has passed the last 60 years trapped in a bubble of faery time. He's ready to take revenge on any Tufa he finds.

The only one who can stop Bo-Kate is Jefferson. Released from the curse and summoned back to Cloud County, even he isn't sure what will happen when they finally meet. Will he fall in love with her again? Will he join her on her quest to unite the Tufa under her rule? Or will he have to sacrifice himself to save the people who once banished him?

Our Tufa Returns ( in more ways than one!)

If you could sum up Long Black Curl in three words, what would they be?

Bittersweet, well crafted and a worthy continuation of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

Alex Bledsoe has created a backwoods mix of magic, fairy lore and modern day realism in his Tufa novels. It feels inviting and real enough that you might want to crawl between the pages and live there for a while - but only if your pure Tufa!

What about Stefan Rudnicki’s performance did you like?

With his caramelized voice and perfect intonations, Mr. Rudnicki seamlessly melds his performance with the story. His British accent flawless, his Appalachian tones spot on and consistent with his other readings of the 2 previous books.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hard to say with out sending out a spoiler alert! The death of a main character was a mixed bag of shock, justification and Cheshire cat grin!

Any additional comments?

I felt that that this book was more sex and F-bomb laced than the other two. That detracted from the pure enjoyment of visiting Needsville again. That said, the ending left wide open another novel from Mr. Bledsoe, and I can hardly wait.

Scatterbrained

The whole book felt disjointed, as though the author couldn't get comfortable with what he was writing. There were at least 17 or 18 different plots that made an appearance and at the end everything wrapped up in a neat little bow by killing off all the characters so The author didn't have to think of a way to end it. The ending just felt slimy. I'm really disappointed because I really enjoyed the first novel in the series as well as wisp of a thing, but this one was just really poor.

Got the magic

I don’t know what it is. There’s plenty of stuff that bugs me in the moment and it just doesn’t matter. These books are wonderful and magical in all the best ways. Their flaws feel like part of the beauty. It all feels like an old fairy tale in the very best way.

rolling story entertwined expertly

what can I say besides I have enjoyed the first 3 books in this series. easy to get caught up in the story and just enough of the magical unknown to be deftly placed out in front of you like luring a mouse with fresh cheese. can hardly wait to start #4

biggest anti climax

what can the combined Tufa clans do to fight off a banished psychopath, and a vengeful rocker displaced in time? it turns out they don't have to do anything. then everyone danced.

it's hard to express the frustration of getting blue balled by the story without spoilers but the biggest reaction this book got out of me was the frustration of a senseless resolution.

For the price, a really good book

For an included book, free for subscribers, this is an excellent listen. lt's an intriguing yarn, spun like a
cobweb to catch book flies like myself.

The reader provides a great telling of the story, a little more voice depth and I would have given him a five.

I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Was a little longer in the tooth, but still great.

Challenging, dark, emotional, hopeful, mysterious, reflective, sad, and tense
Medium-paced

Plot- or character-driven? Plot
Strong character development? Yes
Loveable characters? Yes
Diverse cast of characters? Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

4.25 Stars

I really enjoyed this story, but it did NOT do what I expected (in a good way, and also in a frustrating way).

Loved the use of time. Still do not know how it works within the mechanics of the world, but it was a great plot device...and hope to see it used in the future, present or past (if you know what I mean).

The story took its time...weaving the plot twists and reveals with a masterly touch. There were times that I flat out had NO idea how it would end, but then had a glimmer of what "might be".

The introduction of the Night Winds was a great plot device. Wondering IF this will be used again in this county, or not.

Loved the new characters, EXCEPT the big baddie. Ugh. That was something you just had to endure. Though, there was just a slim degree of what she wanted that was appealing, but most was a whole LOT of bad.

The growth of the characters we've already met...was good enough to propel the story forward, and the desire to want to know more.

The structure of the next book...is what really intrigues us. Will it be ANOTHER protagonist, OR will we finally get a repeat (from a previous story)? We are good, either way.

At the moment, this is one of our favourite stories of the fae. There is enough intermingling of history, music, the fae world and our contemporary life...to want to know more.

On to the next story. Looks like a book a day. Out of my slump, finally.

Good Listen

I am enjoying the series of books and am happy I stumbled across them. I normally enjoy the narrator as well but on this book his breathing and mouth noises got ony nerves. Every inhale was loud and the mouth noises at times were almost too much. Maybe he was sitting too close to the mic...I don't know but I sure hope it doesn't continue on the next book.

Captivating story

It is a great story but the reader failed to convey the songs well. When a reader changes their voices to reflect the change in character and there is little difference it muddles the story. Otherwise, good story and highly recommend Alex Bledsoe.
