Sintesi dell'editore

Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So, naturally, when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife.

But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious. She throws herself deeper into her work as CMO of Kinetics, the fastest growing gym franchise in the nation. She loves her work, and she's good at it, which is why she bristles when her boss brings in a consultant to help her spearhead the new facilities on the East Coast. Her frustration turns to shock when that consultant turns out to be Blake's younger brother, Lucas.

Emma is determined not to fall for Lucas, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that Lucas is nothing like his brother. He is kind and attentive and spends his time and money caring for the less fortunate.

What she can't understand is why Lucas continues to try to push her back into Blake's arms when he so clearly has fallen as hard for her as she has fallen for him. Realizing that her love life is as complicated as anything Jane Austen could have dreamed up, Emma must find a way to let Blake know that it's time for him to let her go and to let Lucas know it's time for him to love her back.

cheesy

Really plain. No comedy, no thrill, just predictable and boring. Not really my cup of tea.

Cute story but appallingly bad narration

Fun, cute, and clean romance. This was a nice change of pace for me after reading some heavier books. It's a pretty quick read too, so it hit the spot!

An unfortunate distraction was the narrator, Justine Eyre. She was so bad, just awful. It's like she was forcing her voice to be lower the whole time (not just when she was doing male voices, but the WHOLE time), so that each sentence ended in a forced, croaky sound. It was distracting and very annoying. And all of her male voices sounded exactly the same. I just cannot believe they couldn't find someone better to narrate this book. In the future I will avoid anything read by her.

😁

This is such a great story. I loved how the author related everything back to Jane Austen or characters in Jane Austen books. The story is quirky, maddening at times and tender in others.
I enjoyed the voice the narrator gave this story. Justine Eyre did such a wonderful job.

Eh, it was just ok

This story is ok, but really feels like one of those slapped together mass produced romances. Yes, I know that is what it is, but it’s not a fun read if it actually feels like it through the whole book. I considered to stop reading it half way through but I still kind of wanted to know how it played out; plus it was free with the plus catalog so 🤷🏼‍♀️.
The main characters are supposed to have a deep background, but all the plot points feel contrived. The female lead is kind of annoying in how she jumps to conclusions and decides what other people are thinking with black and white finality instead of any nuance or logic.
The performance is lackluster. The vocal fry on Justine Eyre is ridiculous. I will give it to her that she is really good and consistent at using distinguishing voices for each character. All that is overshadowed by the vocal fry. It makes each character sound whinier than I think the author intends.
There are also many of the following issues that are pet peeves of mine:
1. Over use of the following:
-“barked out a laugh”
-“face grew hot”
-“swallowed hard” (NO ONE “swallows hard” in real life as often as some authors like to include in their stories. When I hear it I catch myself saying “for f***s sake, stop it.” It’s vastly overused and unnecessary)
2. Introducing some sort of mystery/holding back some piece of the story without resolving it (for example: we never find out why Sylvia was seeming sad and elusive when Emma came back from NY. If it wasn’t going to be part of the main plot, why include it?)
3. Creating a misunderstanding that gets dragged out and poured over way longer than necessary. (For example: finding out who April and Denise actually were. I guessed several chapters before that came to light and was getting annoyed by how overblown that situation became.
Overall, it was ok to take up my drive time listening as long as it was free on the plus catalog. I never would have wasted money on it.

Perfect for any Jane Austen fan!

I absolutely loved this book! I finished it in one day and could not stop! The Austen quotes made it all the more perfect.

Great book

Not cheesy, engaging dialogue/ story, deep enough to not seem shallow, enjoyed thoroughly , highly recommend

A Simple Plot With Jane Austen Quotes

The book was such a light fluffy story and it has it own share of issues, I really like anything that is Austen related but this one wasn't what I expected .. its nice in its own way and I guess you can read it if you are in the mood for something that does not take much of your brain to follow
the narration was very good and I liked it

Moderately Entertaining for Jane Austen Fans

This book kept my attention the whole way through, and I enjoyed the allusions to Jane Austen. It is not nearly as well written as an Austen novel though. It was pretty predictable, but I thought the inclusion of the child character was original and helped make it a better story. The family dynamics were also interesting. It is fairly entertaining and would primarily be of interest to Jane Austen fans.

Good and then so-so.

I enjoyed this book. It was a good story. I struggled with the ending. I'm glad there was a happy ever after, but I struggled with the immaturity of the hero. Don't get me wrong, I really liked him. But I was just as upset as the heroine with his stubborn insecurities. but like I said I got my happy ending and that's what really matters. I've listened to several audio books with this narrator. She has grown on me. It's taken me some time 2 get accustomed 2 her voice especially when she does the men. I have gotten used to it though and now it is of little consequence. I've grown to enjoy listening to her. So, this is a good book and decent narration. Worth the listen

Light romance

Typical light romance with a lot of repetition of the conflicts. But I did listen to it very quickly as I enjoyed the characters and wanted them
To get to their happy ending.

Meh

This JA concept was interesting, but the plot was slow and had too much internal dialog. I skipped forward quite a bit without missing anything.
