Alone. Hunted. Vulnerable.
As the blood settles into the snow, Rebaa's life lies in tatters. Her adopted tribe has been slaughtered, leaving her lost and isolated in a freezing and hostile world. Kidnapped from her own forest race years before, Rebaa must now find another people to protect her and quickly.
But in daring to fall in love with a man not of her own species, she defied every lore set by the creators of human kind, the Sky Gods. Now damningly burdened with her murdered lover's offspring, Rebaa knows that if anyone were to discover her baby's heritage, the only sentence would be death.
Driven by the love for her unborn, Rebaa sets out on a perilous journey to find a safe haven for them both. But what haven could possibly exist for one who bears...the Forbidden?

This was a well written, if sad, prehistoric fantasy romance story. The narrator did a good job of bringing this short story to life. It was a good story, but damn, I wish it wasn't so sad....
But was terrible sad at the end. As a prequel I look forward to further books.
She is a very pregnant woman in a cruel world where she will be shunned by her own tribe for becoming pregnant by the leader of the tribe who invaded her home and took her. She does fall in love with her captive who seems to have loved her and treated her well. When he is killed, she is on her own. She meets a woman with a similar tale but with a very different experience and outcome. They form a deep friendship over their shared experiences in a very short amount of time. The bulk of this prequel is the relationship that develops between the women and the sacrifice that one makes so the other can survive.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my unbiased review.
As a prequel, this book does a great job of making me want to know more, I'm a bit disappointed that the other books are not currently available on Audible.
Rebaa really impressed me, she was in a very difficult situation and yet her determination allowed her to do incredibly difficult things.
Nen was equally remarkable, both lead characters show the strength people can show when love drives your actions.
The overall story had me gripped in it's thrall from the beginning until the end.
The narrator did a great job with the dialogue in particular, it must have been challenging with the accents and the communication barrier the characters had. The overall delivery was very good as well.
