Sometimes we're not alone.... What is the dreadful secret hiding behind the front door of an insignificant South London terraced house? Following a triple killing in 1896, a series of murders occur sporadically in the same house, culminating in the murder of the new occupant's girlfriend more than a century later. But is there a connection or are they simply coincidences? Reverend Bernard Paltoquet, the vicar of the local parish, is determined to find out. He gradually discovers what links the murders and, with the help of his friends Dr. MacTavish and medium Dorothy Plunkett, finally unlocks the mystery that has kept 57 Bockhampton Road in the grip of an unidentifiable evil influence for so many years.

This is really a series of ghost stories
This engaging novel starts with a murder mystery set in the late 1800s , then proceeds to tell a series of ghost stories, that occur chronologically over a period of years until the present time. The murders/ghost stories are all set in a house on Bockhampton Road in the U.K. The Reverend Paltoquet becomes involved when one of his parishioners becomes a victim. He begins delving into the background of the house and its unfortunate occupants until he becomes certain that a ghost is involved somehow. The book describes his attempts to get to the bottom of the murders.
The book was read by Angus Freathy. Angus did a great job keeping up me engaged and in creating believable characters. The stories, on the other hand, got to be pretty predictable after the 3rd or 4th murder, so Angus had his work cut out for him. Nonetheless, I was still surprised at the ending of the book.
Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this book and can recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of mysteries.
