Sintesi dell'editore

When a brutal snowstorm shut down all the flights in and out of Chicago, Todd Curry and a few other stranded passengers rented a Jeep to drive the rest of the way to their destinantions. But along a forested, isolated road, they picked up a disoriented man wandering through the snow. His car wouldn't start and his daughter had vanished. Strangest of all were the mysterious slashes cut into the back of his coat, straight down to the flesh....When they arrived in the nearest town it seemed deserted. Cars sat in the streets with their doors open. Fires burned unattended. But Todd and the rest of the travelers will soon learn the town is far from deserted, for they're being watched....and hunted. Soon they will discover the inhuman horrors that await them in the Snow.

Action kept my attention

I needed a departure - I had this book on my wish list for a while and finally listened to it. The story is fast and so it kept me listening to it all the way to the end - the narration is very good, and that does a lot for this story. I would put it on the level of a 1950's sci fi movie, which can be a good time. I want to ding this story for some reason but the truth is I was kept entertained by it and in the end that is what it was written to do. It may be a little cheesy but that does not kill it, go ahead, if this is your genre then it will probably be a story you will enjoy.

Wrong Reader

Jeff Pringle, with his Country Bears voice, was the wrong reader for this horror story. It was like listening to Santa Claus read Lovecraft - a complete mismatch.

The story wasn't bad, though it brought to mind the plot for "Chubby Rain," the movie being made in the movie Bowfinger. Perhaps it wouldn't have if the reader had been Phil Gigante or Bronson Pinchot, someone who could have made the terror terrorizing. Still, a fair effort from Malfi at a SciFi/Horror mashup.

Very Original Good Listen

Any additional comments?

This book was really good. The only problem I had is it left some of the mysteries unsolved. Such as what was the deal with the children and what happened to them? Its not a big part of the story so no spoilers but I just wanted that wrapped up. Very good story and didn't take long for things to start going bad for our heroes.

Well Read - story too long though

This audio book is very well read. Love the narrator. The story starts out interesting enough but once the main characters are stranded in the town with these creatures that take over their bodies it goes on and on and on and becomes not believable and too fakely dramatic. Didn't enjoy ending as much as beginning.

A fun monster style horror story

This was a pretty good horror story by Malfi. It's a monster type of story that deals with some weird beings that come out of the snow and take over people like in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It follows the story of a couple of people who happen to break down in their car while traveling in the snow and then happen upon a town in crisis. It was a fun read it had a zombie story combined with Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe to it. One missed chance I thought was the protagonist (Todd) was determined to get to his son by Christmas, but any references to that meeting were was pretty much ignored in the middle of the story, so the emotional impact that could of had driven the main character Todd was lost. Other than that minor gripe this was one of the more enjoyable stories by Malfi I've read. Don't expect some moral lesson or higher level of meaning in these pages, just expect a fun classic horror story, because that's what you get.

Of note the voice actor did a decent job. Unfortunately he does not have multiple voices, so if you are getting a first person account from a male or female character in the story he reads from the same voice, but he is very easy to understand and reads clear, so while he could have been better I really had no complaint because he was easy to hear and follow.

If you want a fun monster style horror story you'll get it with this audio book.

Overall a good and compelling story

Any additional comments?

This book does have B-movie type dialog, which comes off feeling extra strange when the cussing and graphic depictions begin. However, the biggest detraction is actually the narrator. First, something he can't help I realize, but Jeff Pringle just doesn't have the voice for horror. He has more of a

Just a minor effort at editing would have helped

What disappointed you about Snow?

The lack of believability. Seriously - leaving O'hare in a blizzard and two hours later finding yourself on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere? In two hours you'd still be in the suburbs...suburbs that are not far from the airport and certainly not in the country. And then all of a sudden it's freezing cold and the stars are out?

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jeff Pringle?

Yes, the narrator wasn't bad

What character would you cut from Snow?

All the two dimensional ones....but that wouldn't leave any characters left.

Any additional comments?

Who on earth rated this FOUR STARS?

Bad Narrator.

Any additional comments?

Jeff Pringle is a terrible narrator in my opinion. Wouldn't change his voice at all and almost every time you hear him take a breath, it would be shaky like he was cold. After an hour of that, I couldn't stand it anymore. Grab a sweater, Jeff Pringle.
Every single character sounded the exact same. He wouldn't even give them a personality. It was like listening to kids reading a book out loud in high school all over again.
He also kept pronouncing words in a very weird way. For example: Feral, he pronounces it as Feeral. The last I checked, there's only one E in Feral. Along with, Buried. He would say Burr-ed. Yet again, only one R in Buried.
If you can manage to get past all that, the book itself was actually pretty good! I'd happily listen to it again if they get a narrator that doesn't suck.

Snow

This book reminded me of Stephen Kings The Mist,so being a big Mr King fan i was hooked.
The poor guy just wants to be home in time for Christmas to see his son,but the snow is too bad and of course he has to find a different form of transport to get there,it just don't happen, but what does happen is a total nightmare trapped in a small town with zombie type folk and kids with no faces its quite chilling,i loved it well worth a listen.
