Sintesi dell'editore

Twenty-three year old Sophie Farrier has everything a girl could want; the perfect job, the perfect flat and the perfect set of friends. As a travel writer, Sophie gets to fly around the world, meet new people, see new places and most importantly buy more shoes! When she is home her life speeds past in a blur of boozy nights, girly lunches and maxing her cards in her favourite shops. There are only two problems in her otherwise blissful life; dealing with the curse of being the clumsiest person alive, and the man she is obsessively in love with, Dan Shorely, already has a perfect girlfriend.

The one aspect of Sophie's life that is not perfect and never has been is her love life. After years of misunderstandings and missed opportunities, are things about to change? Will she ever find and catch her perfect man? Or will the dream of a happy ending and the dream man always be that... just a dream?

Not Sophie Kinsella

If imitation is a form of flattery -- Sophie should be insulted. A few good jokes do not make up for lack originality and a tedious main character.

A wild romp with a Britsh sense of humor

What made the experience of listening to Around the World in Stilettos the most enjoyable?

At first i didn't realize that Sophie's day dreaming, forgetfulness, shopping binges and clumsy escapades were all humorous, and setting the stage for her final decisions. Even after i got the hang of it, i would still cringe in fear at the impending consequences, but i learned to laugh through it with Sophie (well maybe "at" Sophie) but it all set the stage for the overall plot. Having seen what Sophie is capable of doing, i really didn't know what to expect at the ending, but i had to listen to the final chapters in the middle of the night to find out what she would do. I love using the timer on my Audible iPhone app, but found i had to keep resetting it to listen a little bit more, time and time again. The suspense was unbearable. All-in-all it is a humorous uplifting story of a modern girl who believes in style and has faith in herself. And the travel descriptions throughout Europe, from Sophie's biased but enjoyable point of view, certainly added to my enjoyment. If Sophie can make it through the troubles of modern life, any body can.

What does Cori Samuel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Cori Samuel is perfect for a stylish young woman in Britain. She really brings Sophie, and all the characters, to life. The internal dialog, instead of being over the top, is really believable as Sophie daydreams, rationalizes and just thinks like a young ambitious girl who wants it all and has faith in her future. I don't know if Cori Samuel could do a Texas drawl, but she does all the characters in this book to perfection. Her voice and pace are lyrical and calming, despite the emotional train wrecks that Sophie has going on around her, she is perfect for Sophie's inner dialogue.

Any additional comments?

So why is this old married guy listening to and reviewing what is apparently a Chick-book? This isn't my usual fare, it took me a while to get into the flow of the book, and i could have used some additional development on Sophie's skills as a writer, but any book that keeps me up in the middle of the night to finish has to be 5 stars. Being from Mars, I occasionally wonder what life is like on planet Venus. Sophie is obviously not from the same continent as my wife on Venus or on Earth. I will never understand either Sophie or my wife, but can appreciate both. And of course listening to Cori Samuel tell me an enjoyable story on my commute, or as i go to bed, is sheer bliss! Just don't tell my wife.
