One week before Jake Rutledge is scheduled to graduate from law school, he receives the devastating news of the death of his fraternal twin, Blake. What makes this death even more terrible for Jake is that his brother died of a drug overdose. Until hearing of his death, Jake had no idea his brother was even using drugs.
When Jake returns home to Oakley, West Virginia, he takes a hard look at the circumstances of his brother's death. In the five years Jake has been away for his schooling, his hometown has drastically changed. Because of the opioid epidemic and the blight it has brought, many now call Oakley "Zombieland". Jake can see how his town's demise parallels his brother's.
Undeterred, the newly minted lawyer takes on the entrenched powers by filing two lawsuits. Jake quickly learns what happens when you upset a hornet's nest. The young attorney might be wet behind the ears, but he is sure there is no lawyer that could help him more than Nick "Deke" Deketomis and his law firm of Bergman/Deketomis. Deke is a legendary lawyer. When he was Jake's age he was making his name fighting Big Tobacco. Against all odds, Jake gets Nick and his firm to sign on to his case before it's too late.

A pleasant surprise!
I had never heard of this author but decided to give this legal thriller a try. The novel is excellent. Narration is a bit slow but the Audible app resolved that.

Preachy
Way too much preaching and not enough story. Also the narrator read as if there were no breaks at all, it was jarring when suddenly the scene changed and he just ran on.

I appreciate the dramatization of this important issue...
...and forgive the less than professional quality of the narration. (George Guidell is hard to beat.) I’m just glad it was published. It helps to convey the tragedy of the drug epidemic. I learned a lot.

can't listen to the narrator at all
the narrator is terrible. it hurts to listen to. you want to shake the next words out of him

new (to me) legal genre... *****
I stumbled upon this new and entertaining author Lawyer.
avid Legal crime listener, tried him out.
sadly I read a couple of negative reviews, however undeterred I enjoyed the Audible Plus free exposure to this very commendable Person. a real lawyer, real hero and activist.
I hope to be rewarded with further works by this very interesting new generation of writing.
loved it, and for those who find the narrators annoying, it helps to relax and just listen. every Narrator is different, one becomes accustomed ... its like habits that take a while to get used to, and then one doesn't know the difference.
I also used to get a bit uppity, but have managed to appreciate the content and go with the sound!

It was very interesting how this book made understanding the law and addiction work. I was thrilled when Jake broke free.

Waste of time
This topic is a serious one, however the voice actor was dull with no enthusiasm. The story is boring as well. Sorry the author could not present his story in a better scenario.

FACT: Addiction is a disease...
It's a fact, based on science. It is not a matter of willpower. If it were, there would be very few addicts and there would not be an opioid epidemic. Ironically, addicts are extremely strong-willed. We have to be to survive before making it into recovery! :-)

Not usually my type of book, but absolutely loved it. Being based on fact made that bit more enjoyable. narrated really well. would definitely recommend

interesting story but wooden narration
the principle of the story is not only interesting but eye opening too. However, the language used is basic at best and the narration is significantly less interesting than my mum reading her out her shipping list

Disappointing
Interesting but very disappointing abrupt ending .After such an anticlimax The ending must say was very poorly written. l was left deflated. l might try another of his books this is my first , to give him a second chance to impress.

Where the heck do they dig up these narrators from?
This guy is barely literate. His reading is appalling. He makes every character sound as thick as pig poo and he’s totally disjointed.
Find someone who can read!
