throughout all the books there was significant emotional angst, as each one confronts the aspects of rejection because if differences from what social norms have decided us "normal" - each a different theme. One even had me in tears almost all the way through (Grey's story). However, each protagonist finds a way to overcome, as much as possible, both personal and storyline disasters. Interesting enough, each book, while a complete novek, is only a chapter of the entire, extremely well thought outstory.
