Sintesi dell'editore

#1 New York Times best-selling author Vince Flynn is back with another nail-biting political thriller that follows the young Mitch Rapp on a deadly mission to hunt down the men responsible for the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack.

For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard.

Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes. The door to the hotel room is kicked open and gunfire erupts all around Rapp. In an instant the hunter has become the hunted. Rapp is left wounded and must flee for his life.

The next morning, the news breaks in Washington that Libya’s Oil Minister has been killed along with three innocent civilians and four unidentified men. The French authorities are certain that the gunman is wounded and on the loose in Paris. As the finger pointing begins, Rapp’s handlers have only one choice - deny any responsibility for the incident and pray that their newest secret weapon stays that way, avoiding capture and dying quietly. One person in the group, however, is not prone to leaving things to chance. Rapp has become a liability, and he absolutely cannot be allowed to be taken alive by the French authorities. But it will soon become clear that nothing is more dangerous than a wounded and cornered Mitch Rapp.

Early days of Mitch Rapp better than a new series

Seems like a long wait since American Assassin, but worth it. This installment continues to give us the background story of Mitch Rapp's early days with Stansfield, Kennedy, Hurly, and in this novel much more on the character of Victor who first appeared in American Assassin. The story works as a stand alone, but when taken within the context of the entire Mitch Rapp series, provides more detail on the characters we have grown accustomed to. Mr. Flynn maintains his great story telling and is complimented by the competent narration of George Guidall. Recommended both for new readers and devoted followers of Vince Flynn's work.

Listened all in one Day

I thought with this book being another "younger days" prequel so to speak it might not be all that good but I was wrong. It is a continuation of American Assassin and so "all" the characters from the first ten books are of course younger which gives room for more overall personality expansion.
It has to be difficult to write these kinds of books since technology expanded so quickly in the last twenty years it is hard to remember what was available when even though there are no dates given.
If I were reading this series for the first time I would start with the last two books and there will probably be at least a third considering the way this one ended.
Of course this is all pure fantasy like comic book hero's, in the real world I doubt we have such a man nor would I actually want one. Lyn

Enjoyable for Regulars

The plot is fairly predictable, but the execution of the narrative is the reason you read/listen to a Vince Flynn book. George Guidall is excellent as the narrator and makes listening to the story a fun experience. People who like Flynn will love this and people who haven't tried Flynn might be a little confused by the characters. The cast is pretty much the same as other "Assassin" books and Flynn doesn't bore his regular readers by reconstructing his characters, but newbies might not understand or appreciate some of the conflict between characters. So it is a good book but not one that new Flynn readers should start with.

Vince Flynn is Back!

Would you listen to Kill Shot again? Why?

Yes, I usually wait a year or two to re-listen to a book, but it is rare that I listen to the same story twice. This one goes on the list though.

Any additional comments?

Vince Flynn is my favorite author. I was sad to see the medical news, and was a little worried about the quality of this book. It was great! This one has vaulted to the 2nd or 3rd on my best of this series (Consent to Kill will be hard to ever knock off #1).

Interesting but not very thrilling

“Kill Shot” is the second in the Mitch Rapp CIA/Spy thriller series. The book is well written and has a good plot but fails to really deliver the action and adventure of the first book. There are a few good action scenes but they’re too few and far between. As the plot developed the author does a good job of filling in background and immersing the reader into the brutal world he creates. I really enjoyed this and it made the book interesting but it’s not a thriller. Also the plot is pretty straight forward except for a bit of a twist at the end. There was very little to keep me guessing. I found the book interesting and fun but it wasn’t the pull me along rollercoaster ride I was hoping for.

George Guidall does a good job a narrating this story and bringing the characters to life.

Nothing new: Another typical Mitch Rapp story

I wouldn't rate this as a great book or a page turner. The story is more around Mitch (of course) but you could see Irene, Thomas stansfield and Stan Hurley being involved as well. The plot it not that great and you don't have any event that races against time. If you have already read many Mitch Rapp series, then this book may well seem to be reduntant to you in terms of explanation of attributes of Mitch, usage of his techniques, rules around CIA etc.

George Guidall gives a stellar performance (as usual).

READ IT IF YOU ARE A MITCH RAPP FAN or VINCE FLYNN FAN only.

Espionage thriller about the young Mitch Rapp!

Kill shot is Book 2 in the Mitch Rapp series based on his age, but the novel was actually written 12th of the 13 Rapp novels written by Vince Flynn. After a series of successful missions, Rapp is shot when he kills a crooked Libyan diplomat and child rapist who had much more protection than anticipated. Rapp is concerned that the CIA turned against him so he goes underground. Over the objections of Irene Kennedy the CIA sends Stan Hurley to find him and return him home.

Kill Shot features the Stan Hurley and his bravery, or maybe it's his insane tenacity.

I cannot rank novels in the Mitch Rapp series because every one deserves a rock solid 5 star rating. Vince Flynn often said that Hurley is his favorite of all of the characters he created. Kill Shot and American Assassin (Rapp Book1) feature the crusty old Hurley at his best and at his worse respectively.

George Guidall does the narration fabulously well.

Vince Flynn was THE master of the espionage thriller. He is missed!

More Politics than Espionage

Mitch Rapp comes close to being captured and realizes there is traitor within the hierarchy of his agency.Until Mitch can ferret out the impostor he goes rogue. The setting is Paris so both the local police force and the French National Security agency become involved. Each agency has it share of incompetent and self-serving actors. Mitch's handlers go to Paris, thus introducing a third agency into the mix. Mitch doesn't know who he can trust.

The book has some exciting action sequences. The near-capture scenario is cleverly plotted as is another part wherein Mitch and his girlfriend observe a badly played ambush. George Guidall's narration is excellent.

So why did I give the story only 3 stars? There were too many stereotypical characters and I would have preferred less focus on internal politics and more on the adventures of Mitch Rapp.

Once again very poor narration

Would you try another book written by Vince Flynn or narrated by George Guidall?

Yes, book good narration poor

What other book might you compare Kill Shot to, and why?

Most from the genre: leather, Robotham, Ryan, Baldaccie etc. - fast, pacey etc

Would you be willing to try another one of George Guidall’s performances?

Yes, but probably only to confirm my dislike for his performance!

Was Kill Shot worth the listening time?

Yes, it was great to listen to whilst doing the gardening

Any additional comments?

This narrator completely spoiled what could have been a good book. He emphasised the wrong words in sentences, took breaths in the middle of sentences and didn't even bother to try different voices for the characters. Overall he was appalling.

The first book written in the Mitch Rapp series

Although this is the book that was written first in the Mitch Rapp series, it is chronological set after America Assassin. It is a stand alone but, if you are new to the series, best read in order.

love all the books in this series and really enjoy George Guidall's narration.

Wow wow wow!

Absolutely awesome story. Probably the best I have heard in years. Undoubtably as good as both Steven Leather and Lee Child at their best!

Brilliant book and series

Firstly George Guidalls voice lends perfectly to this book he truly is excellent and his foreign accents come across as natural with each character. As I said his voice really adds to the characters but especially to Stan Hurley!

This book has the right balance of what you'd need to keep you hooked and listening.

If you've started on the Michael Rapp series, (American Assassin) I garrentee you won't be disappointed. I've listend to all of them and now re listening to them the second time round which, for me is unheard of! But I've struggled to find another author as good at Clandestine espionage novels. Yes I had read Chris Ryan and Andy Mcnab and I still stand by that.
Enjoy

couple of good twists

I don't usually write reviews, I had to write this one, cos a previous review almost put me off about the narrator but it was a good performance. I guess you can tell from the sample if you can stand someone's ascent or not. story was also good with a couple of unpredictable twists

Very good to lose yourself. A great journey!

Starts off steady but grows with intensity towards the end. Vince Flynn's writing style within the book also seems to develop as the book goes on. That's just my perspective, I'm not a huge book worm though.
