Sintesi dell'editore

In Matheson's vampire classic I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world and transformed the unfortunate survivors into bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire hungry for Neville's blood. By day he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?

This recording also includes a sampling of other horror stories by Richard Matheson, some comic, all scary: "Buried Talents", "The Near Departed", "Prey", "Witch War", "Dance of the Dead", "Dress of White Silk", "Mad House", "The Funeral", "From Shadowed Places", and "Person to Person".

Not what I expected

if you are expecting the movie, turn around now. if you want an original take on vampires continue on. the story itself is an interesting take on a post epidemic lonely mind. the short stories that follow are hit and miss, some are attention grabbing and trippy while the others are, to me, completely rabbit trails away from reality itself.

¡Unexpected!

Having seen the movie I sort of expected a similar story line and developing of events, but I was surprised to find a more immersively psychological and emphatic unfolding of Robert Neville's survival on earth: The last of his kind! If you are up for an obscure and thrilling story, this is for you!

Fun & thrilling story

the story of I AM LENGEND in the first half of this book is terrific! The narration is emotional and believable. however, the 2nd half of the book features short, anecdotal stories. They could have chosen a better narrator for the second half. I found his voice annoying and distracting. I found it hard to enjoy or focus on the stories and eventually I had to end without finishing

First half great, second not so much

The I am legend portion of this novel was great, a lot different than the movie however. I wasn’t impressed with the “other stories.”

I am legend was an interesting listen, the rest no

the additional short stories seemingly of the same genre were no where's near the quality and seemed diluted, and difficult to finish

Hopeless Robert Neville and a wonderful ending.

This is my favorite apocalypse book of all time. Robert Neville is the last man alive as far as he knows. locking himself in his fortitude house every night to keep out of reach of the vampires that nightly try to kill him. Although they are not his greatest enemy. The battles he fights with himself are worse. Any hope he finds in the dog or people and poorly for him. And the way the book ends is truly classic. The way the author portrays his battle within himself is great. I revisit this book nearly every Halloween. So good!

The main story is excellent...

I am Legend: A classic story, and the narration was absolutely excellent. The additional content is the reason I do not give a full 5 stars. Most of the stories are interesting, but the narrator was extraordinarily distracting and difficult to listen to. To summarize, a full 5 stars for I am Legend's story and narration. 4 stars on the additional stories, with maybe 2 stars for the narration (I'd say 1 star, but I give credit for the effort)

Not like the movie

I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t even close to what the movie was. It was a little shocking, but I really enjoyed this story. Maybe a little more than the movie. It had its moments where it wasn’t thrilling, but it also gave you a look into his world as it was. The ending was phenomenal and such a twist that it’s worth staying up and finishing this book in one go.

Very disappointing

The potential of the story is good, but the execution is poor. If you are like me and prefer books to their movie remakes - don’t wast your time with this one and just watch the movie. It was a lot better.

Great book. Terrible Short Stories

Skip the last half of the audiobook. The stories are almost as bad as narration.

Narrator overdid it

The narrator was too dramatic, pretensious and therefore annoying. The book was ok, although the writing felt very oldfashioned with binge smoking, tons of whisky and almost unstoppable animal like sexual desire towards female vampires. i didnt even attemt to listen to the other stories because the next narrator killed it at the very beginning.

A good story, audio book performance (or Audible app) had some strange pauses

This audio book has I Am Legend and also number of other short stories. They’re a nice bonus but I bought it for the former so that’s what il reviewing: On the whole a good story. Vampirism as a germ is an interesting idea and given a patina of scientific respectability. Robert Neville, the protagonist, is drawn well. The audio book had a number of pauses and glitches but I think that’s mostly technical issues in the Audible app not the recording itself.

Hard to listen to

The narrator really acts out - some times to much. The fact that more stories are included came as a surprise to me. If I had known that I’d have settled for the other version of the audiobook.

Ruined by narration

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like bad narration.

Would you be willing to try another book from Richard Matheson? Why or why not?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Robertson Dean and Yuri Rasovsky ’s performances?

No, the narration of the stories after I am Legend was so bad I stopped listening.

A depressing monologue

I had no problem with the narration, but the story - of a line man's thoughts trying to come to terms with being the sole survivor on earth, really started to get me down. There were only 2 upbeat parts to the story, which were quickly quashed. I thought the ending was a bit stupid. I can see why the story was so radically changed for the film.
