Sintesi dell'editore
As the birthplace of Judaism and Christianity, the Holy Land (the area in and around modern-day Israel) is one of the most important regions in the world and the setting for defining events in religious history.
Comb through this evidence for yourself with The Holy Land Revealed, which will add new dimensions to your understanding of this dynamic place. Delivered by archaeologist and award-winning Professor Jodi Magness of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, these 36 lectures give you an insider’s look at how archaeology helps us relive this period of civilization. And it’s a chance to get up close and personal with long-buried objects that will take you deep beneath the pages of the Bible.

The MAJOR disappointment
Lectures are good BUT the MAJOR disappointment is the professor spends a significant amount of time talking about pictures NOT included in the PDF. This should be very easy to fix by adding the lectures PPT as a separate PDF! Please!

There's a whole lecture about a toilet
Lecture 18: 'The Life of the Essenes' discusses for an entire 30 minutes what can be deduced from the excavation of a toilet at Qumran. And it's fascinating. Five out of five stars, that's great archaeology right there.

Pretty good content, but it lacks video informati
The main problem with this lectures being treated as an audiobook is that several lectures are literally based on images the professor is obviously showing in the video version (she even says sometimes things like "as you can see in this picture"). And in this case this is very unfortunate because she describes physical sites, maps, logistics and even army positioning.
Nonetheless, it's VERY good content. Full of details, the professor is cautious to not induce you into just believing in her words, talks a lot about methods and sources, and she does not incline the lectures towards any religious preferences: she does use sacred books as guides and sources, but mainly as literary and culture guides, not as dogmatic or as absolute.

Great Lectures
I recently visited Jerusalem for the first time and these lectures are filling in a lot of information I wish I had during my trip. Will be very valuable for my next visit. Definitely recommend this audiobook for anybody remotely interested in the history of the Holy Land. Especially if you want to figure out fact from fiction.

A good history of the Holy Land
It was an overall view of the history of this part of the world that is important to 2 religious movements. it has left its imprint of Western Civilizations for the past 2000+ years.

slanted
Scholasticism in general expels significant amounts of time and energy trying to tear down the Bible. This book is no exception. if that's what you're looking for, than go for it. But it should give you pause to wonder why it's such a big deal?

Awesome content but missing pictures
I still found it to be a great listen but it was clearly a video course with constant references to images.

Awful & Arrogant
These lectures are delivered with a surprising tone of sarcasm and arrogance. Very disappointed.

A REALLY “GREAT COURSE “
This is the second set of lectures by professor Magness I have listened to and it certainly will not be the last one.
You can find pictures of the areas she mentions on “ Google Earth”.
I highly recommend getting this book.
My thanks to Audible to make these series available to us, JK.

Unacademic, subjective and childish
Apart from the continuous repetition and circular arguments attempting to do nothing but prove the historical accuracy of the Bible, there is an assumption of absolute ignorance leading to explanations of basic English wordsike "sect" & "forum". Several contradictions of earlier parts of the book and inaccuracies in timelines combine with a total disregard for Greek & Latin pronunciation, despite significant efforts to correctly pronounce words in Hebrew & Aramaic, to form a pitiful attempt at an academically rigorous book.

Best non-fiction I've ever read
Thank you Jodi. This has been my favourite non-fiction book on Audible, or elsewhere for that matter. I found this fascinating and easy to follow. I usually find myself getting lost during some parts of a non-fiction book, and have come to accept that as normal, but Jodi's skill in explaining things clearly has shown me that it really is down to the quality of teaching as to whether a book is easy to follow or not. This book was unexpectedly interesting and has made me want to learn more about the geographical region and time period it covers.

Excellent: concise, objective, well delivered and fascinating
This course is outstanding. Prof. Jodi Magness puts together a very clear narrative: it is well researched and referenced, it is concise yet rich in information and it is clearly and unassumingly delivered. I look forward to more courses by this scholar!!
