Sintesi dell'editore
Srikkanth Bhattacharya is a quintessential gay bachelor and perfectly happy about it—until he gets a call from the local hospital telling him his best friend died in childbirth. Sri had agreed to provide the sperm to make Jill's dream of motherhood come true, but he'd never expected to have to make decisions for a baby girl. He intends to place her with an adoptive family, but once he sees her, Sri can’t bring himself to do it. So now he’s struggling to learn how to deal with a newborn. His housemate and friend, Jaime Frias, volunteers to help, never guessing he’ll fall in love with both the baby and Sri.
Everything seems perfect until a visit from Social Services sends Sri into a tailspin, feeling like he has to choose between his daughter and a relationship with the man he’s coming to love.

Surprisingly realistic
Any additional comments?
I have listened to dozens of gay male themed books on Audible. Many of them are supernatural fantasy or unrealistic romantic tales. This book had been in my “Wish List” for over a year. I was somewhat skeptical about listening to a book about gay men read by a female narrator. To my surprise, this was a fantastic book that explored so many issues that I could one day face. The narrator was superb and the way she read the story made me regret that I even considered her gender as a factor. This truly is a great story that I can realistically seeing happening to myself or one of my friends. Give it a chance.

Started kind of sweet, but then downhill
The book doesn't have much in the way of characters, but at first, I found it kind of sweet--I know several two-dads families, and thought of them while reading it. I didn't even mind the "Brand-G is the best kind of carseat" parts--maybe it would be useful to prospective dads. But there really isn't much plot beyond the first third of the book, there's no characterization or level of prose to keep one's interest, and there are two or three pretty explicit sex scenes that seemed completely out of place--they didn't advance the plot or characters, just seemed thrown in to have sex in the book. The happy ending didn't read as real, either. Disappointing.

Sweet but oh so boring
It is really a shame this books fails on so many levels. The writing is not great, the narrator is wooden and the story is just so contrived to be laughable. I love gay dad stories because I love the "family" aspect of it. The fact the families with same sex couples are no different in every way that counts than any other family. I can't even name all the ways this story went awry, but I will try. First, the story reads like a technical manual for first time parents, complete with the naming of popular name brand of baby supplies and medical advice. Really, medical advice, can you even do that if you are not a doctor? For a while I thought I was listening to a commercial or a message from the CDC. And the narrator reads it like it is a public service announcement very wooden and no emotional depth at all. Then the romance btwn friends starts out good, but then the author contrives this completely unrealistic "fear of child protective services" as a plot device. It fails miserably b/c it is just too stupid and the MCs reactions to it are way out of proportion. Then there is some pseudo family drama that turns into nothing. The bottom line is this is a very boring read and the narrator is horrible.

Too Bad About The Two Dads
This book reads like a fictionalized version of one of those glossy pastel brochures called "Guide To The Two Dad Family" or in an edgier style "What it's like to be a co-Daddy". There really is no story, in the sense that a real story has characters with personalities, tastes, histories and interests and this is just a bare, simplistic account in which nothing is really going on except the very quotidian life of two dads and their baby. And there's a visit from a social services rep to get the intrusive, more conservative point of view from city/county bureaucracy Or maybe it's the neighbors that object to the two-dad lifestyle, I'm not sure, I didn't get that far.
It's unfortunate because this "story" has a lot of potential for a much more interesting take on the adventures of this family, and could have been a lot more fun to read. They could be out to dinner in an Ethiopian restaurant for example, or they could have family members to do things with, or they could have work situations - The explicit sex was completely unnecessary.

Low angst, sweet story forcused on the baby
Jenny Urban gave a mediocre narration performance. Sometimes her voice sounded almost mechanical with not much emotion. It seemed weird sometimes for a woman to voice a gay sex scene.
I read this book in written form back in 2013. I did not remember the book the way it was actually written. I had remembered more conflict and a harder time of them becoming a couple, yet the reality is things were pretty easy for the men to achieve their family. A very interesting pairing with Indian and Mexican heritage. I wished their had been more engagement with their cultures. A solid story, lots of baby rearing scenes. 4 stars overall.

Super cute!
This was pretty cute and I liked how it played out. The way Sri got Sophie made sense and I loved that Jaime stepped up immediately to help out. Their relationship felt really organic and grew nicely. I felt so bad for the guys when they had to endure homophobic remarks and accusations. Sri and Jaime made a great couple and were awesome dads to Sophie. Great listen!

Truly beautiful!
This book was worth every cent. This was such a heart warming book and the narrator's voice was perfect for the characters. I kept forgetting a woman was reading. I have a two year old and still remember all the baby refreshes they mentioned. So sweet. It's sad what a homosexual couple has to go through with all the ignorance in the world and it making their lives harder. I was happy that Ariel balanced out the bigotry with good people too. A total must read!!

Didn't even finish it.
What would have made Her Two Dads better?
I'm not sure. The writing was okay, I guess. Sort of. It just was fairly boring. There was not really any drama and WAY too much time spent of baby shopping. And description of baby things. Another new parent might find this stuff interesting but I can't imagine anyone else wanting that much description of minute details.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ariel Tachna again?
Probably not.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I feel bad but she should NOT narrate books. She has a very pleasant voice but there was very little inflection. It was very monotone. I kept falling asleep. She was the main reason I couldn't make it through the book. I probably would have finished it if it would have be it written form- just to see if if got better but I just couldn't bring myself to listen anymoe.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom. It might not be fair to the written form, where I probably (definitely) would have skimmed over the boring parts but I couldn't take the monotone anymore.

Better than I expected
Where does Her Two Dads rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Very good book if you take it for what it is.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Her Two Dads?
The part where all three of them are on the daybed. That was very sweet.
Have you listened to any of Jenny Urban’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never listened to this Narrator before and to be honest, I didn't even read the name to realize it was a girl. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was a female voice but actually, she did a great job so I am glad I didn't deprive myself from this great book based on that.
If you could rename Her Two Dads, what would you call it?
I think the title suits it well.
Any additional comments?
I liked her two dads, and even the intimate scenes which I thought were actually pretty sweet. The story is very simplistic. I felt a lot for the characters. At first, I was annoyed with all the baby buying details. But as the story progressed, I started to really like the characters. One critique I have though, the characters talked like a writer. They didn't really talk like realistic people sometimes. But after overlooking that, I could enjoy it none the less. I didn't really want an all drama all the time book and I didn't get that. It could have been a lot more complex but as an easy read that will leave you saying 'awwww', then this is the story for you. As for the intimacy, hahahaha, no complaints here. It was multicultural and I appreciate that. Well done. This picked me up. Thanks.

A wonderful surprise and discovery
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Without doubt. I clicked on the sample and had the most wonderful surprise when I realised that the narrator is actually someone who I have encountered before, albeit accessed in a different way. I have many, many recordings by this narrator and she is, without doubt, one of my all time favourite performers. Her voice is so distinctive that I recognised her within the first sentence so I can say without hesitation that any new listener will not be disappointed. She delivers yet another flawless performance to this story and I loved it from beginning to end. One of her talents is reading a story and putting enough emotion into it to drive it along but still somehow leaving enough room for a listener to interpret it for themselves. As brilliant and understated today as she was on my first listen to her many years ago. I can't wait to hear more of her work now she is available on Audible. Outstanding!
What did you like best about this story?
It was funny, emotional and, above all, very well done in terms of character development and the central theme of family. There were a few hiccups - for instance, one of the characters near the end dropped not one, not two but three HUGE bombshells on his traditional parents and they accepted them with barely a pause but overall it was very entertaining. If you like well thought out, gentle builds to a satisfying happy ending then I throughly recommend this.
Which character – as performed by Jenny Urban – was your favourite?
Due to Jenny's delivery style this isn't really a relevent question as she doesn't follow a lot of narrators and try and differentiate through the use of accent or pitch. Her style is so clean and well delivered that she doesn't need to. Both the main characters are performed very well, as are the supporting cast.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed several times and did have a lump in my throat once or twice, not unusual where Jenny is concerned!
Any additional comments?
I'm not sure that Jenny would get these reviews automatically or if she just checks the site occasionally but I just want to say that I am SO glad to find that she's gone 'professional'. This was a fantastic find and I'm so glad I bought it. The delivery really is flawless and it added so much to the source. If anyone is dithering over buying the book because the narrator is a woman then please take a chance, I promise you won't regret it!
