Sintesi dell'editore
Emmy-nominated Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian) and Eric Dane (The Last Ship, Grey’s Anatomy) play two warring commanders in this military science fiction novel written by Nebula and Dragon Award finalists Richard Fox and Jonathan Brazee.
A war with no end. A vendetta that will destroy two commanders.
The war between the Alliance and the Hegemony has spanned countless stars and shed untold blood on a hundred worlds. For two commanders, Alliance Captain Alcazar and Major Richter of the Hegemony, the war has spiraled into a personal feud.
Both lead fierce marines and mechanized soldiers into battle against the other on the green hell planet, Ayutthaya, and each new fallen warrior only deepens the bitterness and hatred between the two.
But as the conflict rages, the two warriors discover they have more in common than they dare to admit, and their own codes of honor may be what can bring the bloodshed to an end...if they don’t kill each other first.
Military veterans and authors Fox and Brazee bring their wartime experiences and years as officers in the United States military in this grueling, head-to-head action driven story.
"A tour de force of edge-of-your-seat combat. Brazee and Fox put the reader in the middle of a sci-fi war that only actual combat veterans could write. Not only is the action some of the best out there, but they capture the still, quiet moments of conflict that readers deserve to experience. Hell’s Horizon is the book fans of military sci-fi have been waiting for. Don’t miss it!” (Dave Chesson, editor in chief, TopSciFiBooks.com)
"As real as combat is and can get without having to be there. Brazee and Fox have crafted the perfect blend of military science-fiction and hyper-reality. You can smell the gunpowder of old mixed with the energy from weapons yet to be." (Craig Martelle, Dragon Finalist for Best Military Science Fiction Novel, 2018)
"Top notch action sci-fi.” (JN Chaney, best-selling author of Renegade Star and Ruins of the Galaxy)
"This is not merely a science fiction about war. This is true military science-fiction at it's most authentic, grittiest, unsentimental best.” (Chuck Gannon)

Gritty, in the trenches, mil.scifi gold
Richard Fox and Jonathan Brazee have found a way to capture a future battle space and put you in the trenches with the soldiers. What is interesting is that the story is told from the company commanders on both sides. Both commanders are extremely capable and competent leaders of men. The strategy and tactics are sound and most intriguing. Jacked up Hegemony troopers in powered armor suits against Alliance Marines. Over the course of the book a grudge is building between the two commanders, tired of losing good men. The political situation and ideology are fascinating, and real. Who will come out on top, and what will happen after the fight?

wow what a great book
Two authors, two narrators, two sides 1 battle. the action was fast and deep and the storyline was so enhanced by the two narrators delivery. I not sure if there will be any more but I sure this will be. highly recommended.

Fun book and interesting way to tell it
First I was super excited to listen to this book both because of the authors and the narrators. After the first chapter I became more septical, Esposito brings alot of emotion to his character compared to Dane. However as the book progresses I realized they (atleast to me) they the both fit the characters they voiced. Definitely would like to see them narrate their own separate books. Powered through it in two days.

WOW!
In my vast library of varying genres I consider this to be one of the most enjoyable listens I have lent my ear to. Both Mr. Dane and Mr. Esposito are outstanding narrators and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another book with either one in it. I was expecting an outstanding story because I'm a huge fan of Richard Fox( Wheres my next Ember wars universe installment?)and was not disappointed at all.
This is a riveting story of two outstanding leaders of men in war. I wont spoil it for you so please go ahead and buy it for yourself and get strapped in. You're in for a wild ride!

Enjoyable story marred by the narration
I enjoy most of Richard Fox' books and though new to Jonathan Brazee's writing I look forward to more of his stories.
This book is well-written and the world-creation is interesting. I hope to read more within this universe. Unfortunately, if these are the two narrators in future stories I definitely will be reading and not listening.
Giancarlo Esposito was the better of the two, though that's not saying much. His narration was uneven and at times his voice was too low to be understood. His range of voices was something less than two as well. All of his characters sounded nearly the same.
Eric Dane sounded like he was going to fall asleep while reading, No emotion, no inflection. Perhaps his character is more even-keeled and thoughtful, but to me he sounded nearly dead. His range of voices was one. All of his characters sounded exactly the same.
I cannot understanding the fawning reviews of the narration.
I do not recommend this book at all as an audiobook. If you're reading this review to see if you should spend a credit on it, don't bother. Get the paper or e-book version. Great story! Dreadful listen.

Outstanding!!
Not only was this story very well written but the development of the characters, the visuals well defined, the military lingo was spot on and shows that the author did his research or was writing from experience. True, and gritty and full of action. The performances from these legends of both TV and Cinema was exceptional and added even more depth to the story.

Esposito = Great!, Dane = Terrible
Mr. Esposito did a great job of putting emotion and inflection into his performance. it could be a little difficult to tell which character was talking but not bad for the first book I've heard by him. Mr. Dane was the opposite. He had zero emotion the entire way through. It was just a dead pan voice. on top of that, it seemed like the same dead pan voice for each character making it difficult to follow along at times.
The overall story was good. you could tell the author had incite into military life, but sometimes the references seemed dated, even in today's military much less one in the future. I do want to know more about the universe though.

Powerful & gripping story, exceptionally performed
Powerful & gripping story, exceptionally performed! It was brilliant to have the two narrators and they knocked it out of the park! My only wish is that there were more to come 🙁

Great format and story
Great story written from two perspectives—and read from two perspectives! The engaging and fantastic Giancarlo Esposito gave the better performance by far, but Eric Dane provided a significant contrast for his character, even though he mumbled at times. Not my usual genre but I was quickly hooked. Well worth your time.

Hate negates hate, but forgiveness conquers all.
I loved this.
***WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD***
I loved how both actors brought completely different takes on what were essentially the same characters. Having the mirror of an opponent so starkly placed in front of each other, made the characters hate, made them kill, they fought, and in the end they understood and forgave.
Noone was the good guy.
Noone was the badguy.
Just two officers taking part in a meaningless political war.
Their love for their brothers in arms was so evident. From the apathetic, depressed by endless war, Major Richter, to the underdog in his own command, enlisted marine rapidly promoted as a publicity stunt, bombastic with a chip on their shoulder, Captain Alcazar. They are the yin-and-yang within each other.
In the end they will share each others graves. One was dead to the world, devoid and apathetic at the beginning of the story, by the end that insidious, melancholic feeling lives on in the opposing character.
This is an excellent audiobook. The narration From Eric dane felt flat at first, but when you hear what he thinks and how he is processing his internal war while commanding the external battles you realise that was completely intentional, I'll be looking for more novels that Eric has either Narrated or narrates because he was superb!
Giancarlo Espinoto, my word! There isn't a piece of his work I haven't enjoyed. If he takes up audiobook narration as a side gig in the future I'll be listening for sure! He really made the tough "barrio bum" - chip on the shoulder Captain Alcazar a bombastic, yet introspective character, intelligent, ruthless, but sympathetic and loving in his own way.
In summary, I'm look forward to listening to the next book, I'm sure there will be especially with the Hegemony and corruption which will be shown to the world.
To the Author. Thank you. That was a joy to listen to - even when it wasnt!
