Discover the gift of friendship!

In a time when many women feel lonely and isolated, Girls' Club calls us to embrace the delight and comfort that can be found in life-giving friendships with women - and to cultivate relationships that not only offer emotional affirmation and acceptance, but also inspire, educate, and stretch us to live out our God-given potential.

Told through stories and encouragement based on the authors' experiences - Sally, a seasoned mother and well-beloved author; her daughter Sarah, an Oxford scholar and new mother; and her youngest daughter, Joy, a professional young woman pursuing her doctorate - Girls' Club will speak to the importance of cultivating deep and lasting friendship at every stage in life.

Join Sally, Sarah, and Joy as they explore the power, difficulties, potential, beauty, and satisfaction of friendships that help us live purposeful, Godly lives and that satisfy our longing for meaningful and intimate companionship.

mixed take

some good points on friendship and the importanceof building community. However, their examples are pretentious as they clearly do not live in the same world as most people. If you regularly traipse all over the world, have time each week for tea or breakfast at the French cafe and write for a living with an extremely flexible schedule, these are your ladies. If you actually work for a living and don't have mounds of money, their examples are hard to relate to.

Beautiful book

I've never had many friends or truly valued life in general. Becoming a Christian through the grace of Jesus Christ has opened my eyes and heart to how dull I've been. I'm nearly 31 and have so much regret for the apathetic way I have lived. I'm beginning to reevaluarte relationships and how to lovingly initiate and maintain them. I've had an extremely distant and uncomfortable relationship with my own mom my entire life. it's enchanting to imagine the hope that through initiation and love that I could potentially have a revived relationship with her. This book is encouraging and leaves me hopeful for any good I can give the world and hopeful that God will provide friendships along the way as I finally bloom into womanhood. I've always thought of myself as a little girl who could never just "be a woman" like most women seem to be. But I see it's a practice, a discipline, a string of small choices made throught the day. Please pray for me and my journey to grow and mature in the love of Jesus Christ.
In response to reading some reviews:
Yes, the Clarkson's life may seem a little fairytale to some people and not "relevant" to the struggle of the masses. But, fundamentally, they write with humility, grace, and admittance of their own personal struggles amidst the traveling, conferencing, and delighting. Although I couldn't expect to live this kind of life, I deeply grasped the principle of the messages beautiful woven with scriptures and intimate experiences. Clarkson family, I am so grateful for your life and everything you have experienced and shared. Please, keep the Girl Club and tea time rolling. Your lives are the fruit of great love deeply rooted in the reality of Jesus Christ and the call to something bigger than yourselves. I've never had hope until I encountered the love of Jesus Christ and it's encouraging to see His example through your lives and writing.

My cup is filled.

I have read The Lifegiving Home, The Lifegiving Table, Awakening Wonder and now Girls’ Club. Right now I’m in the throws of life with a small toddler and even smaller baby. Life can be overwhelming and survival instincts can kick in. My saving grace has been audible where I can still listen to my favorite authors and mentors. Sally, Sarah and Joy have done a marvelous job with this beautifully written book about connection, community, discipleship and sisterhood. We need each other and they gave their own personal experiences as well as tangible ways to create community in our own lives with the women that, albeit we may not even notice, surround us. I yearn to be the place people come to in need of recharge and a listening ear. I also yearn for those kindred spirits in my own life. Their application is incredible because they’ve experienced numerous moves and yet still found ways to create community and tradition. What a blessing this book is - and every book I’ve read by a Clarkson so far. They inspire me to grow in my relationship with the Lord and continue learning all the beauty He’s place’s at my fingertips.

My next book is “Book Girl” by Sarah and then I will reread “The Lifegiving Home” by Sarah and Sally for the third time. I like reading it when fall comes because it always inspires closeness for the upcoming busy season.

My recommendation? Read it for yourself! :)

I want to love it but the narrator...eee

I really really want to love it but the narrator in chapter three sounded like a computer. It was so crazy distracting for me to listen to her monotoned delivery I had a really hard time grasping what was even said. Sally and her daughters need to narrate this, it would make it SOOOOO much better.

Loved the book!

I actually didn’t think I was going to like it as much as I did. I learned a lot and was challenged. Each of the narrators were excellent in keeping me engaged.

Loved this book on Cultivating Friendships!!!

This book is full of so many helpful points of how to be a friend. Woven throughout are stories of how they processed friendship in their lives. They had times of success and failure but never gave up on wanting to have deeper and more full lives and community. I love what one said about if you want to change the world, start right where you are, start with your neighbors.

About Sisters not friends

I expected a book about friendship beyond family. Some of the readers speak in what I hear as a haughty tone. Some very good points. Does not address women from a less privileged background.

Fantastic, engaging and inspiring!

This book was like liturgy to my arid soul!

It spoke to a deep need within my heart that I’d dared not mention for fear of appearing needy or overindulgent. It was such a relief to find that I’m not alone in my need is a community of deep, likeminded, adult female friendships. Drawing from their own experiences as women living abroad, the Clarkson girls whimsically but assuredly lured me into their confidence over tea, poetry and good literature to share in their pain and joys on journey to combating loneliness before gradually thrusting me back out with the same advice I’ve always known: to make new friends you have to be a friend.

Sometimes that takes immense courage. Sometimes it takes vulnerability. However, it almost always requires love, hospitality and some degree of royalty, a sporting a desire and to bless others from a spiritual position of abundance and grace.

Best bit: some friendships like surgery, wound in order to heal. Stay the course till the heart comes. Ouch, but so true.

I highly recommend this book to women of all ages, especially those who seek to bring transformation and light in their corner of the world.
