After the death of her husband, Bella Jordan and her son need a fresh start. But on their way to stay with family in Chicago, they stop in Lily Dale, New York, and a storm forces them to spend the night.
Brimming with kooky psychics and mediums, Lily Dale is just the kind of quirky little town Bella's late husband always talked about settling down in. So when the local hotelier, Leona, passes away, Bella agrees to step in and help temporarily. The longer she and Max stay there, the more Lily Dale starts to feel like home.
But for Bella, finding a home means finding danger, too. Leona was murdered, and it's up to Bella to track down the killer before her sanctuary comes crashing down in Staub's warm and witty new series debut.

8 hours in and still bored. I quit.
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This is not a murder mystery. A character is murder before the book begins and by chapter 10, the characters still hadn't realize that it was a murder. The main character spends most of her time bereaved talking about how much she misses her husband and the rest of time worrying about her son. It's sad and not amusing. The other characters aren't quirky and fun and the story lacks the charm I thought it would have. I expected it to be lightly amusing and charming and it fails on both accounts.
Has Nine Lives turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I just won't read any more from this author. I'm surprised this is part of a series since the story is so undeveloped, and I won't be reading the rest the series.
What character would you cut from Nine Lives?
The main one.
