Sintesi dell'editore

A tangled tale of murder, malice, and revenge. Charming Tate Sawyer, a serial Casanova, is found murdered off a popular hiking trail. As the investigation unfolds, Lieutenant Greg Kennedy and his team discover that Sawyer left behind an embittered string of wealthy women, each harboring her own motive for ending his life.

Family secrets and sibling rivalry further complicate this dark mystery. Who was this man? Is he destined to a bitter, deceitful legacy, or is there more than meets the eye? Karma’s Law is a tale so tangled it resembles the twisted cypress of its Pacific Northwest and Alaskan setting.

One of the worst

I purchased this book due in large part to the glowing review from Lisa, which just illustrates what different tastes and preferences we all, as humans, have. I considered this to be one of the worst choices I ever made. The writing was amateurish, the dialogue unnatural and trite, and the conclusion predictable from the first chapter. And the narration...well, hark back to that awful old TV show called "Dragnet" and the deadpan detective who tersely utters, "Just the facts", and you've gotten the flavor of the narration. I did finish it (admittedly with some fast forwarding), but I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Grueling

I had to grit my teeth to get through this book. And, while I appreciate good quality writing, I am not THAT hard to please. My favorite genre is murder mystery/crime drama--so this one sounded like a shoo-in. Not. The descriptions were stilted--and often irrelevant, superfluous and shallow, the dialogue was stilted and unrealistic--bad enough to be distracting, and the narrator did not in any way tone it down. I nearly always finish the books I start; I had to take a break from this one and listen to a couple of others, then go back. The one thing that helped me finish it was realizing that it sounded a bit like the actors on Dragnet (you know, back in the 60's?) when they talked to suspects and when they described what they were doing: overly simplistic, clipped at times, pointing out the obvious, uber-professional...ugh. I'd like to say that at least the ending was a surprise, or at least well written. Nope. Truly not worth the time it took to listen to it.

Kept me guessing until the end!

Where does Karma's Law rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to a wide variety of audiobooks, so it's hard to compare them. As far as fiction books, I found Karma's Law to be a great read that became impossible to put down at a certain point.

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked how Meskimen narrated the story. He gave the characters more depth.

Which character – as performed by Jim Meskimen – was your favorite?

He did a great job with the teenagers in the story. His interpretation of their speech patterns was dead on and quite funny at times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't intend on listening to this book in just one sitting, as it's too long for that. But I did end up listening to it way longer than I planned on each day. By day 3, I was hooked and wasn't about to stop listening until it was over.

Any additional comments?

My only complaint is that I can't find any other audiobooks by the author, Kristi Lamb...
