Sintesi dell'editore

When France’s top chef, Marc Fraysse, summoned the world’s press to make a shattering announcement, rumors abounded that he was about to lose one of his three coveted Michelin stars. Instead, on arrival at his remote restaurant on a volcanic plateau in central France, they were greeted with the news that the troubled genius had been murdered, and the message he intended to deliver was never made. Seven years later, his killing and the identity of his killer still remain an enigma.

Enzo Macleod takes on his fifth cold case and delves into the big business and high stakes of French haute cuisine. As winter sets in and snow gathers along a volcanic horizon, he retraces long-cold footsteps across a remote hilltop. But unraveling the complex web of relationships that surrounded the brilliant and mercurial chef—a spurned lover, a jealous wife, an estranged brother, an embittered food critic—also leads to strange parallels with his own life. And in opening up this celebrated cold case, he finds himself reopening old wounds from his past.

Mystery, Frnace and Food

Would you listen to Blowback again? Why?

I would listen to it again- maybe not right away but next year or so. Even though I would know the story, I loved the narrator and all the evocative writing about France and French food and wine.

What did you like best about this story?

The narrator and the writing

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All his performances are great

Another fine entry

I've become close to all the characters & this is another good portion of the series, with the exception of Charlotte.

Really enjoyed this book

I just discovered Peter May's Enzo McLeod series due to a 2 for 1 offer on Audible. I really enjoyed this book and the others in the series that Audible has , hopefully they will get the whole series. The setting is France which is a nice change and Simon Vance does a great job with all the accents including Enzo's Scottish accent. Great romp through the French countryside, although Enzo is a forensic scientist these books are really classic who dunnits as he sets out to solve the most famous unsolved murders in France this combined with his complicated love and family life makes for an entertaining read.

Enzo Files - Incomplete!

Love all Peter May's books but it is frustrating that not all the Enzo or China files are available on Audible.

Disappointing

After reading the Black House and the Lewis Man both of which I really enjoyed, I decided to try another Peter May book. Chalk and cheese spring to mind best summarised as; pretentious, boring, slow and all read with some very doggie accents - would not recommend.

A good story with twists and turns

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

building the characters from the previous books, a good plot and an unpredictable end

Any additional comments?

a worthwhile read as part of the series but not one to take in isolation

Fine food, fine wine and murder

Enzo is back with the french themed investigations, and now the victim is an obsessed chef, and the mysteries he left behind, the food descriptions are excellent the wine tasting is like all wine testing too much when you are not participating. The mystery is multi layered and well developed, with the help of humor and Enzo's family and his need for female company.

No it is not the Lewis trilogy expecting it to be is not fair to this collection that is more about france and its idiosyncrasies, and the well developed character of Enzo and the cast of characters that surround him through the series making it a very enjoyable ensemble.

The reader became Enzo a long time ago for me and I enjoy the voice very much, it has made the stories very good and clear with good characterizations.

AN EDGE OF THE SEAT THRILLER

This is the 4th book in the Enzo series & once again Peter May has delivered an edge of the seat thriller which keeps you guessing right up to the very end. The story is gripping & all the time you are trying to work out who out of the many different characters is going to turn out to be the villain. There are incidents referred to involving Enzo & his family which come as a bit of a surprise as they have obviously taken place in the two previous books in the series namely books 2 & 3 which haven't been made available by Audible unfortunately!! Thankfully this doesn't detract from this story but it would be nice to know how & why these incidents came about. Simon Vance's narration & voice characterisations are once again very good. Looking forward to book 5 which is read by the wonderful Peter Forbes & it will be interesting to compare with the equally wonderful Simon Vance. If you like a good "who done it" then I thoroughly recommended this book.

Good story

A really good story, this kept my interest and I didn't want to put it down, my only complaint is the mind numbing descriptions of the food and wine, only tolerated because, after all, the murdered man owned a restaurant. I still felt they were a bit over the top!

Another Gripping Enzo McLeod tale

Would you listen to Blowback again? Why?

I will listen to this again, not just because I live in France, and know the areas concerned, but because it is a complex and gripping tale that deserves another listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

Enzo of course, the primary character of the series. He leads a life of constant battles, changes, high's and lows, all of which are superbly crafted by Peter May

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I really enjoyed the dinner with the lady Gendarme, who was so cute.

Any additional comments?

I love Peter May's work, and look forward to chosing my next novel from his works
