Sintesi dell'editore

"I come from a long line of idiots."

Those were the last words his father uttered before dying, and from what he knew of his family tree and the unfortunate end that came to so many of his ancestors, Del Honeycutt couldn't disagree. What he didn't know was that his family held dark secrets - secrets that were about to come crashing down upon him.

A seemingly innocent date gone tragically wrong plunges Del into a web of murder, lies, greed, and a hidden fortune dating back to a crime committed 85 years earlier by his great-grandfather. Accompanied by Sabrina, the sister of Del's brutally murdered date, a violent journey of discovery and fear begins. Pursued by vicious killers intent on eliminating anyone with knowledge of the 85-year-old crime, their only hope of survival is to find the reason behind the original crime and why, decades later, someone is still willing to kill to keep it hidden. But Sabrina is concealing a monstrous lie of her own. Is she who she says she is?

This listen was a thrill ride

This book was a great mystery thriller with a little history lesson thrown in for good measure.(Seriously, how did I graduate - from college no less - and never know there was a place called Fordlandia!)

The quest to solve the mystery took the main character, Dell, and his instalove on a series of adventures, all while staying just one step ahead of nefarious men on a mission. There was depth. There was inner turmoil. There was the constant threat of murder and mayhem.

The narrator was good. I appreciate that he did not try to force a female voice. He managed to give two different personas without forcing a cringeworthy falsetto for the female lead. I tip my tiny invisible hat to Hernandez.

The ending wasn't even remotely predictable. It made perfect sense, but I had it going many different ways, none of them even close. There are very few things in the book world more fun than that.

An Enjoyable Thrilling Listen

I enjoyed listening to All Lies. The story was well-rounded and suspenseful. The characters were good, especially Del. The plot with the missing painting was interesting and exciting. Andrew Cunningham has proven to be a good, consistent author.

Greg Hernandez' narration was okay. He has a great voice when not in reading mode. The listener can tell it's being read word for word. I don't know the fix for this. It needs more voice inflections and should sound like voice acting rather than plain reading.

Engaging story with believable characters.

This is a mostly plausible, if not totally believable suspense story with some action adventure and colorful characters. Greg Hernandez embraces the first person Narrator of this story, Del, and makes him his own. His performance is quite satisfactory. It kept me enthralled through to the end.

Intriguing story hard to listen to

What made the experience of listening to All Lies the most enjoyable?

The story and plot were compelling. It was interesting that actual events from the past were inserted into the story, but not enough to make this work historical fiction. It was very clever.

What did you like best about this story?

The predictability was a little difficult to enjoy at times, but then something unpredictable would surface and excite me into the next chapter.

What didn’t you like about Greg Hernandez’s performance?

The narration seemed like he was attempting to remove an accent and read each word like it wasn't part of the sentence. Emphasis was on the wrong word in the sentence 98% of the time, and the reading was choppy. There were moments when it felt like he was getting into the flow a little bit, and then he would go right back to the "one word at a time" type of reading.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoyed the plot and the storyline, but the narration was too hard to listen to in long stretches. The story kept me going to the end of the book.

Any additional comments?

The narrator has a smooth voice - it is a shame that the inflection and lack of flow hindered the performance.

good story

Del and Sabrina set off to find and discover the truth behind a hidden family treasure. This story grabbed my attention from the beginning and both Del and Sabrina are very likable if not entirely believable characters. Their search for hidden treasures leads to an exciting adventure with just the right amount of intrigue. I wasn't crazy about the narrator he wasn't terrible but he was a bit bland for my liking. I received this book for free for an honest review.

Exciting! Complex! Loved it!

Old crimes cast long shadows, as Del learns the hard way. When his date Izzy ends up murdered, Del is forced to recall the grandfather he never met, and try to make the connection. With Izzy's sister Sabrina, he tracks down the clues on the trail of his grandfather's art heist, of which, he comes to realize, his own father was aware. The trail, over 80 years old, is obscured by time but reaches into the present day. Many twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat till the end. The ride is smooth but surprising as the denouement is resolved.

I received a free review copy of this audiobook and truly enjoyed it. Both writing and narration are excellent and highly recommended. I'll be purchasing more from this duo.
