A proposito di questo titolo
The week before Christmas has come to Little Fernsbury. Frost on the honey-coloured stone, candles in the church windows, a wreath on every door. The village is rehearsing its nativity play and quietly dreading the Boxing Day mummers.
Clementine Ashby, known to everyone as Clem, runs the secondhand and antiquarian bookshop on Church Street, where a large grey cat sleeps in the window among the Christmas books. This December she has been asked to describe the most famous book in the valley: the old quire book in which a local folk singer found the village's lost carol twenty-eight years ago, by the light of his grandmother's fire. It will be sold at auction in the new year, and it needs an expert eye on every leaf.
Then, on the morning after the candlelit carol service, a woman who came home to clear her late mother's cottage is found dead. The police arrest her brother. Detective Sergeant Jonah Okafor, polite and thorough, is not entirely convinced. Neither is Clem.
Between the nativity, the mummers and the bells of New Year's Eve, a bookseller who knows rare books and old manuscripts must read foxing, watermarks and the shadows that old pages leave on one another, before the village loses more than its carol.
Foxed by Firelight is the third book in The Little Fernsbury Bookshop Mysteries, a cosy crime series with an amateur sleuth, a bookshop and a cat. A Christmas cozy mystery for long winter evenings in the Cotswolds.
