fantastic story

series has been a joy to listen to. I really love Tom's take on Cain and I'm excited to see where it goes next. I heard the authors are working on a brand new book in the series (11, I think), so it's cool to pick this up now and get into the universe.

This was a gritty, fun ride.

The author did a great job keeping story arc continuity from this series. You know how some series mention little nuanced facts that you never see again? That didn’t happen here. Even the dialogue/banter between two main characters made sense. It wasn’t shoe-horned; it was a natural development of the characters. The character skill sets were the same. Not “Surprise! New skill no one knew about and doesn’t make story sense.”

The gritty style of this sci fi author, the “writer’s voice” was thankfully present. I cannot imagine the Reaper series being written any other way. This story has a feel to it, and I’m glad the author kept it in place.

One welcome change was the dialogue between two of the main characters. Not so much of a change, but an evolution that felt natural to the story. It’s how the relationship grew over the arc that made some of this dialogue hilarious at certain points. It’s exactly what they would say to each other and about themselves over time.

The tropes used in this story aren’t immediately visible. The writing quietly carries them while other things take place. It’s nice to not have to wade through information dumps. The writing carries the exposition and tropes organically. That kind of writing is next level. Color me impressed.

I was riveted to the story, and wanted more when it was finished.
Five stars.

Excellent adventure

Hal and the gang are back at it! I love the plot and the characters. I am really enjoying how the storyline is growing and changing.

Chaney fan

I enjoy Most of Chaney’s series, including this one. Looking forward to the next book. Also like the Sol Arbitator series, on book 4 of that before I return to the next of this one. Try to wait for sales as his books are TOO short IMO. Every 6 hr book seems like 1/2 of a 12 hr book, which used to be more the norm, but nowadays everything, just keeps getting smaller for the same price. As in the supermarket, so it is everywhere else, books no exception, sadly, authors have to eat too.
Narrator is great, as always.

NOTE TO AUDIBLE: it’s really annoying we can no longer Rate a book without writing a review. I don’t always have time for that, most often, don’t and I use my star ratings to tell if I’ve read the book before as I’ve read so many I can’t remember everything & Audible has a habit of deleting my history (possibly everytime I have to change an email address?) & I wind up rebuying books I’ve already read. Having a star rating is a quick & easy way to assess what I’ve read in a series. I don’t know why you insist we have to write reviews now of so many words, unless you want authors to have less ratings. Authors, please complain to Audible about this as they’re hurting your sales by doing this. Many times when I finish a book I’m not in a position where I can stop to do a review but can give a star rating. It’s not fair to either of us to have the ability removed! I encourage other readers to voice their complains regarding this too.

Awesome series..

Love Reaper Cain and his mouthy teenage crew member, Elise, as well as his 2 AI’s X-37 and Jelly. And I was so happy that he finally took care of Vice Admiral Nebs. Now he has to help the people of Wallach.

No romance and the F-bomb was use 24 times.

As for the narration: I still can’t get over listening to Ray Porter, and his awesome acting skills, do the first three books then it changing to Tom Taylorson, who is pretty bland when he reads. BUT since I like the Reaper series so much I will continue with it, but this is the last time I’ll listen to an audible when it changes narrators. It’s just too aggravating thinking about the publishers not giving a damn about the readers, caring about the all-mighty-dollar ONLY.

Fantastic audiobook

I love the Last Reaper series. Flight of the Reaper is a blast. Tom Taylorson does a great job with the narration.

Could have been good

No Ray Porter... That was a bad move in my opinion, character was missing that harshness that the reaper instills to the reader. Was like hearing a history lesson a mono tone, flat un0exciting. I went through the story twice and it kept loosing my attention. Don't get why they change narrators in a series, its the worse ten changing a leading character in a movie series. If you liked the first 4 books this one will bum you out !!!!

Another Great Adventure!

I'm hooked on The Reaper series because of the diverse characters that I wish I could hang out with. I love the whitty sarcastic humor and the heartfelt devotion of Reaper and his crew. The storyline flows at just the right pace, not boring.
Special Note: I wasn't going to continue with the series when the narrator changed but took chance due to the quality of the previous ones. Glad I did he's just as good, so give it a go.

Epic Space Adventure!! A+++

This series has been a blast to listen to! The Last Reaper has captured my attention from the very beginning and I very much look forward to the rest! Halek Cain and his ever growing band of misfits are entertaining and full of life…this futuristic world the authors have created seems plausible and the character development just keeps building and bringing you back wanting to see what will happen to the crew of the Jellybird!
