Sintesi dell'editore
Trenton Colman is exceptionally creative, with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime, and invention is a curse word.
Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, who died in an explosion - an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.
Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlike anything they've ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on - and quite possibly their very lives.

So entertaining listing to this with my 13 yr old
Love the characters, following them as they follow their strong desired need, to seek knowledge explore what they are talented at doing, and challenge themselves and the rules they have been taught. Can't wait to see what will happen next!

Wrong protagonist
The story follows Trenton, an aspiring mechanic that has the backbone of Charlie Brown and the social aptitude of a brick. He meets Calista, who is written as the girl he will eventually realize that he loves, but she’s the real protagonist - just the author never seems to figure it out.
Trenton’s obtuseness, wildly swinging emotional pendulum (yelling at the heroine and then “trying to talk sense to her” is NOT a literary device that you should just use at the drop of a hat), just stupid judgement for being a “genius” strains plausibility, which takes away a lot of the enjoyment from the story.

Amazing
We first got this as a audiobook from our local library, we got to chapter 28 then the CD stopped working. For the past 2 months I have tried to get it and now o have and it’s an amazing book. There are 2 more books that I need to get now. The knot thing that I don’t like about it is the fact you aren’t aloud to create or improve things, I would die if I couldn’t do that. 1000000/10.

Definitely Worth Your Time
I've listened to a lot of "included" and "Audible Originals" and always end up dropping them at worse or feeling very indifferent after finishing them at best with them. This book was a big surprise, not only in the fact that it was amazing and well written/paced while being an "included" title, but in the twist I honestly didn't expect from a plot I figured would be nothing new in the realm of post-apocalypse. It's such a weird and kind of unrealistic twist that, if someone told you a spoiler synopsis you would think it stupid and maybe even cringy, but the setup and reveal, the characters and the world, are built up and crafted so well that I fully buy into whatever the author has planned for this series. Time to move on to the two sequels, which are also "included" titles, but I would gladly pay money to listen to them.

Very Enjoyable
It was a bit slow at the start but I quickly became hooked. Kirby is a great narrator and the story was engrossing and relatable for me.

Narrator screaming is best I've heard
The story is interesting, fine. I think the most memorable aspect is, however, the passion expressed by the narrator during those moments a character is meant to scream or otherwise engage in communication that conveys maximum emotion with minimal need to render such things into more concrete information.
