Sintesi dell'editore
When society ceases to exist, who can you trust?
After the collapse of the nation's power grid, America is under martial law - and safety is an illusion. As violence erupts around him, Morgan Carter faces one of his most difficult decisions yet: whether to stay and defend his home, or move to a more isolated area, away from the prying eyes of the government. He and his family are hesitant to leave their beloved Lake County, but with increasingly suspicious activities happening in a nearby refugee camp, all signs point towards defecting. Morgan and his friends aren't going to leave without a fight, though - and they'll do anything to protect their freedoms.
From the author of the hit survivalist novels Going Home and Surviving Home, Escaping Home describes the struggle to live in a world with no rules, and how, sometimes, the strength of family is the only thing that can pull you through.

WARNING! DOES NOT END SERIES! CUT FOR PROFIT?
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes - but only if they understood that this book will not 'finish the story'. My only complaint - as far as the reader goes - is that he often didn't allow enough 'silent space' to show that a chapter, or a scene, had changed....and your mind had to do some 'catchup' to figure out what was going on.
Any additional comments?
I AM REALLY TICKED OFF ABOUT THIS BOOK! I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes, but THIS book appeared to be INTENTIONALLY CUT - while suggesting the final, dramatic ending still to come. The other books were roughly 16 hours +/- , but this only 8. WHY? Obviously this part of the story needed another 8 hours to tell it - as the final confrontation with the DHS is yet to come. But - it just....STOPS.
I HAD THE DEFINITE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS INTENTIONALLY SHORTENED - TO MAKE READERS BUY THE 4TH BOOK IN THE SERIES, IF THEY WANTED TO KNOW THE ENDING.
AUDIBLE - This was probably the publisher's 'doing'....but you should be alerted to this 'sales tactic'.... and WARN YOUR CUSTOMERS ACCORDINGLY.
PERHAPS YOU SHOULD WORK WITH THE PUBLISHER TO MAKE THIS A 'TWO FOR ONE' DEAL.... BOOKS 3 & 4 FOR ONE CREDIT. Then we'd be getting what we thought we were paying for.

It's only half a book!
What did you like best about Escaping Home? What did you like least?
Least: This is part 3 in the series and it really is only half of part 3. This one is only 8 3/4 Hrs long - Book one and two are 16 hrs. each. Seems like this is an underhanded ripoff to force you to buy part 4...You have to listen to understand what I mean, but all of a sudden the story ends and the epilogue begins. The previous books were much longer and actually completed part of the story, then led you into the next part. This one just cuts off the storyline.
What did you like best about this story?
This series is very entertaining.
What about Duke Fontaine’s performance did you like?
Very well spoken. The different character voices are a very nice and enjoyable to listen to.
Do you think Escaping Home needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes. I would enjoy continuing to follow this series, with the exception of this shortened version as mentioned above. Everyone be aware that book 3 is only half a book.
Any additional comments?
I think this shortened version is a very bad practice. Book 3 is only 8 hours and 41 minutes and really leaves you hanging for an ending. I think making people pay full price for half a story is just wrong. Whoever chose this tactic should really reconsider their options. Makes me consider not buying part 4 out of spite.

A Good Story, if Totally Unbelievable
This review relates to the whole series ... the books were written in such a way as to impel you from one scenario to the next. There are a few ongoing problems ... a really good editing would not have gone amiss. And a vocal pause between scenes (instead of running one right into the next, leaving us to wonder which character's story we're now on) would have been very welcome.
The characters are great ... Morgan and his family dynamic ... that's a good story right there and especially I like Thad who I'll admit I've kinda got a crush on. That said, I really don't like Sarge who was just plain boring .. and annoying to boot. I'll tell you now, Sarge, you'll never get a date with all the locker room bullshit you spew.
And the story is just a really good read. While all the government machinations and skewed logic don't stand up to scrutiny, they nevertheless allow the reader to suspend disbelief and have a really good time.
I do wish Book 3 had actually ended ... I take it this means Book 4 is on its way and another credit will be gone. Audible, this is definitely a case where two should be offered for the price of one!

Not bad but it ends with no real ending
I said this in the first 2 reviews I would like to tell you to read this but be warned that book 3 ends with no real ending and there isn't at this time a book 4 so if you are one of those people that doesn't like that sorta thing just wait and see if book 4 comes out - that is at the time of this review (11-24-13)
I liked the first 2 books lots and that's why this one isn't a 2 star because it should be when rated with the other 2 - its not that its a bad book, it just seems incomplete and ends with no ending at all, like there is another book but as of this time there isn't (11-24-13) and I can't see a reason to end it like this at all.
Not much of a review because if you liked the first 2 books then you will like this one except for the non-ending that is

Waiting for #4!
If you could sum up Escaping Home in three words, what would they be?
Couldn't Stop Listening!
I purchased Going Home on Saturday, February 8th. Since then I have listened to all three books and was crestfallen when Escaping Home ended because there is not #4 to listen to. I am completely engrossed in all the characters and was sorry to lose Reggie. I'm hoping the rest of the characters survive this heart-wrenching story, but I'm looing forward to hearing the rest of their journey. Hurry up with #4!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I guess my favorite character is Thad. I was so happy he made it home to his family and was there for his mother as she passed on. I could feel the love he had for his family and felt the pain and horror of him losing them. I was so happy he was able to exact revenge not only on the people who killed them, but on the three who killed his neighbor.
Which character – as performed by Duke Fontaine – was your favorite?
It has to be Sarge! He tried to be gruff but is a fun-loving passionate character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried several times. When Thad lost his mother because I know how that feel; when he lost his wife and child - because it was such a horrific way to die; and when Jess was brutally raped because no one should have that happen to them. I laughed a few times because of the tricks they played on each other and "Little Bit" antics.
Any additional comments?
This series should make us think of what we have and what would we do if this type of thing happen. There is always the possibility; maybe not to this degree but natural disasters can even cause hardships where we don't have clean water, clothes, heat, food, etc. I applaud Morgan for being so prepared and taking a stand of keeping what was his even though I'm sure he wanted to help those suffering around him. He did give help where it was due; such as to the elderly or the sick. After events like Katrina, we know that human survival instinct can cause these types of things to happen.

Off to the woods...
Don't even consider reading this book without having read the first two, it won't make sense. After you have read two you will really want to read this... be warned, as others have mentioned this does not end the series (the next comes out about June 2014), and this is very short and without any end point... it just ends. This book follows Morgan and friends, as the government seeks to send them to a FEMA camp and they are forced to retreat to the woods.
The narration is slightly better in this book, the military involvement increases and most major characters are back together. I had to suspend my disbelief more often... but dang I like these people and the plot and am ticked I have to wait to know. I'm also starting to worry after the abbreviated nature of this book that it will be the series that never ends. Writing skills remain the same, language a touch stronger, rape of a main character is intense but he tactfully shows only the start and emotional results.

Disappointing series - good start went down hill.
Any additional comments?
Sadly I won't be buying any more of this series and regret buying the third. The first book was very interesting and thought provoking. The author did a great job imagining what would happen if all electronics went away - generated a lot of dinnertime discussion for us. He portrayed the initial confusion and disorientation, as well as the breaking down of society as time progressed very well. He should have stayed with the solar flare rather than the ridiculous government conspiracy for the reason behind it all and gone further into the breakdown of society and where things would go.
His characters - rather than evolving - are devolving to the point they are clownish and no longer believable nor likable. The author has a distressing tendency to portray the wife and daughters of the main character as whining, self centered, and patently stupid. The men have become overly macho, testosterone laden, cigar chomping clowns. The characters - believable early on - have become dislikable and unbelievable.
Too bad - the start to this series was brilliant.

Get the series you wont be disappointed
Have you listened to any of Duke Fontaine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Duke Fontaine is excellent he made the journey enjoyable
Any additional comments?
This is book three of the series and I highly recommend getting all three and enjoy them together. They are interwoven, well written and well narrated. I was cautious at first driven off by the author name but the lesson learned, never judge a book by the cover is how I felt after listening. Three very worthy books with worthy narrator. I hope there is a book four.

A book with action and a tight story
Although still not Hemingway the story and sequence of events tied together with great action and suspenseful situations make this one great series. The writing has improved in this the third book but the action and story are what make this book work. The characters are great, the villains are, well truly wicked, mostly because they represent the real thing, they are not some supernatural aliens but are those that walk among us. I like the dialog and the relationships built among the players, the family dynamic among Morgan's clan is particularly well done and you become invested in their fate emotionally. With a lot of the books of this genre there is the "event", battle with the hordes and then things get flat - this whole series avoids that trap altogether which keeps the action moving and the suspense ripping along, no doubt this is going to be a classic series for the prepper set. This is a good series and I cannot wait for the next installment.
Highly Recommended

Half of a book.
This is only half of a book. I got it despite the reviews. It’s a waste of credit as little happens and the government plot, which was already silly, expands.
Not worth it.

Review of the whole series so far books 1-5
I have just finished book 5 in the series and thought I would write a review on the whole series (so far) as I loved all of them the same.
So if you've read the synopsis you'll now that Morgan was on his way home to his wife and 3 kids when.... the power goes out, an EMP maybe? and plunges the world back into the stone age. Now you might be thinking that there is a couple of other books on the same line and a successful TV show.
However what makes this different?
Morgans story and the situations that he finds himself in with people that are trying to survive. I continually thought "yeah, that is what would happen, thats how people would act in that situation" it is brilliantly thought through. The characters are fantastic as well all with very different backstories which really makes you care about what happens to them.
But the stand out thing is the narration by Duke Fontaine it is fantastic it probably the best I've heard, he puts constant voices on all the characters so you know every time who is talking but is still clear to understand.
The only thing I would have liked is an explanation to why Morgan prepared the way he did, it sort of does near the end of the series, its only a small thing but it bug me a little.
If you like excellent narration, brilliant characters and a believable story (with a little hollywood drama chucked in) give this a go.

Continued with interest and intrigue
Not sure where this is going but I’m hooked. Plenty of side issues to consider which it does with ease. Onwards to next book. Find out exactly how the characters fair in this unforgiving time.

I have run out of superlatives
This is my 4th listen and I am still loving it. As I said about other books in this series, I won't go so far as to call it a "classic" but I will confess that I keep coming back. The writing is compelling and the delivery is outstanding. I only wish there were more books in this particular series.
Thanks for producing it.

As good as the first two.
Sticks to the same direction as the first two. Some progression but a little slow; good to see the 'Mark' situation being put to bed but a little underwhelming.
Look forward to a few stories meeting in the next installment.
