I learned so much about the USA

This was a fascinating and very interesting series. It was easy to listen to (quality-wise) but very hard to hear many of the stories. This series has helped me to understand a lot about the USA now - it's history reflected in how/why it does what it does now. This was 8 hours of my time very well spent. Thank you!

The aftermath

Here at the end we see a world which is starting to look pretty familiar to us. America is a world leader in industry. Automobiles abound. Thanks to the cold war and the experience of 2 world wars we see the birth of the military industrial complex and America's unimaginably large military. To pay for this, income tax begins to be levied on common people. The social discomfort laid the foundations of the social, gender, and racial changes of the 1960s and 70s. And GI bill and lead to an influx to colleges with higher education no longer being just for the elite.

This has been a wonderful series and I highly recommend it.

Personal perspective of US homefront during WWII

First, Martin Sheen voice is made for audio performance. Second, as a history buff, I very much enjoyed what I felt was an honest personal perspective of the US home front during WWII. I have seen many of these viewpoints alluded to, but have never encountered audio segments of daily life changes brought on by the last world war. I found myself intrigued by each episode and looking for even more information.

The Home Front Audible Original

This is an excellent history of WWII told from a very different perspective. It depicts the stresses in US, not generally reported in the typical biography, historical report etc. As a child of two WWII veterans, the story with many original recordings of Americans impacted by the war and all of its effects on the American public is quite profound. The darker side of the story isn't usually highlighted in my reading. Martin Sheen is an excellent narrator. #greathistorylesson, #multigenerational, #pastmeetspresent, #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

review

Just hits the highlights of the war. You spend a lot of time listening to the end credits after every chapter.
