Sintesi dell'editore

Doug Bradley's Spinechillers takes you into the world of classic short horror stories read by Hollywood horror icons. We get underway with H. P. Lovecraft, who explores dark deception in "The Terrible Old Man". An unearthed, long-forgotten artifact is protected by powers intent on punishing those who would remove it in M. R. James' "A Warning to the Curious". Ambrose Bierce presents a different take on the werewolf myth with "The Eyes of the Panther". The master himself, Edgar Allan Poe, takes us on a voyage of damnation with "MS Found in a Bottle". Arthur Conan Doyle weaves a tale of a haunted English doctor in "The Brown Hand". New guest reader Jeff "Reanimator" Combs kicks off the Herbert West six-part series with Part 1, "From the Dark". We finish up with the last poem Poe wrote, the beautiful and haunting "Annabel Lee".

Above Average

Most of these stories were quite good and on the whole I hadn't heard of about half of them which I think is beneficial in a collection. The quality of the reading was not annoying. The only irritating part was the "creepy" music they continued to play either in the background or in between tracks, which was mildly distracting and did not add much to the atmosphere. That said the reading was professional and did not have an errors other than this.

A Great Collection of Classic Spooky Short Stories

This audio book is a continuation of the previous volume’s success.
Amazing stories from well-known authors are combined into this Halloween treat for the ears. The narrator was perfectly chosen to create an eerie nature. This effect is further enhanced by subtle sound effects and chilling music that match the events of the story. This audio book is was worth every penny, and will made any October feel more festive.

A warning to the curious

This series is a consistently good one, and for each not-so-scary story (usually a Poe one - when are we going to admit that his stories scare no-one nowadays?) there is one really good one. In this volume, the standout is "A warning to the curious". I like to listen to these stories in bed at night with the lights out - they help me relax. But halfway through "A warning" I had to sit up and turn on all the lights, and I didn't sleep much that particular night. It's one of the most frightening experiences I've had, wanting to stop listening, but scared to stop. Exactly what you want in a good horror story.
