This story captured my entire concentration. The first 5 chapters felt like torture, I found myself second guessing everything I thought I knew. Feeling all the trauma. I gasped a deep breath when we finally got Santiago’s first chapter and seeing him fit into the story. I knew Santiago was gonna be a darker story and there were definitely a fair number of cringeworthy moments. He is ruthless, a tad maniacal but also selfless in his own way. I have been waiting for his story as his character captivated me from the beginning, his friendship with Grace and his brotherly bond with Dominic melted me for his softer alter-ego. I’ve come to think of him as multiple personas, that is the skill of Heard’s writing, she can make you fall for such morally blackened heroes and still see them in a fond light. Santiago is a caretaker, a vigilante, a protector and he loves with everything he’s got. I found myself aching for Ciara’s rescue, her healing. That poor girl goes thru so much in this story and I just wanted the world for her. Making her his entire world, the protector gives her everything and more. You will feel all the emotions in this one but you will leave with that happy glow. These men may be cold to the world, but to one woman they are their entire world and truly a group of softies. I tried so hard to write this review without spoilers, it is such an impactful story.

Ryan West is just the right blend of fierceness, soft emotion and just a tad of manic. Helena Walters really surprised me with her pure empathy in Ciara. She perfectly embodied a thousand emotions in her narration. Viscerally feeling Ciara’s fear and pain t also her tentative joy. These two were fabulous together with a tender emotion that simply amplified Michelle Heard’s fantastic storytelling.
