Sintesi dell'editore
Despite interruptions from her granddaughter Elizabeth, the harbormaster Domingo, a swarm of Island locals, and a few mysterious visitors, Victoria manages to get in a good bit of detective work and still finds time to cook her traditional Saturday night supper of Boston baked beans. She even concocts a scheme to trap the killer. But she'll need to act quickly, victim number two has already been found.
"Wonderful....Here's hoping that Victoria Trumbull is solving crimes for many years to come." (Booklist)
"Victoria's mordant wit and easy cleverness add to this vastly entertaining debut series." (Library Journal)

Very disappointed
It was almost painful to listen to this book. The story is only so-so but Davinia Porter's narration was dreadful. I'm usually a fan of hers but not this time. For a story taking place on Martha's Vineyard why does everyone have a strong English accent? Even the ex-NYC cop sounds like he took a detour through London. When she does vary the accent it's almost worse. A crusty New Englander with a Scottish accent.
Stay away from this one.

Unacceptable language
i hate it when authors use the "f" word in their writing. I won't be listening to any more by this author.

Odd Choice of Narrator?
I love Davina Porter. I've sought out books for her narration... British books.
A British narrator for these decidedly east coast, New England, Martha's Vineyard stories seems an odd choice.
My family members have been summer people on the vineyard for four generations and I've read all of Cynthia Rigg's wonderful books, in book form.
I would prefer to hear the stories read by someone who sounds like a true New Englander.
Save Davina Porter's lovely voice for British characters, please.

Painfully boring
I have to agree. It took me weeks to get through this book, and only if I had nothing else to listen to.

Good book, but why?
Why in the world would you hire a British reader for a story set in Massachusetts with a major character from the Bronx, New York City? Both areas have very distinctive accents that would have added greatly to the telling.

Odd choice for the reader
Great story! Reader is good, too, but why a British reader for a story set in New England? I love hearing a Scottish accent ( and she does it so well), but it's startling in the mouth of a New England sailor.

Great performance!
The narrator was great! It seems as if everyone on Martha’s Vineyard came to be there via the British isles, however! LOL!

Eh!
I cannot recommend this book. The story was not very believable. Perhaps this is due to the English narrator who could not perfect American regional accents. I listened to the end hoping the story would improve but it never did.

skip this one
struggled to finish is the nicest thing I can say.. the accents are so awful that I had to pretend it took place in Wales to deal with. took me the longest of any book to listen to b/c of the narrator and the ridiculous retired detective. if he said "sweetheart" 1 more time, I had to stop the book. so I stopped it everything I started. please, NEVER write a book like this again.
