Sintesi dell'editore
Amber Houston was born light-years away from Earth aboard the enormous colony starship Dandelion.
By the age of 14, she has spent her entire life training as a Ranger, ready for the day when she will be among the first humans ever to set foot on an alien world and build a new civilization.
When Dandelion suffers an emergency toward the end of its journey, Amber and her fellow young rangers are evacuated and land on the planet Newhome years ahead of schedule. While the adults left behind on Dandelion slow the ship and turn it around to come back - in eight years - Amber and her friends must build lives for themselves amid revelations that will change humankind's destiny forever.
Meanwhile, aboard the ship, secrets that were buried over three hundred years ago finally come to light....

Solid old-school science fiction
This strongly hearkens back to the days of juvenile science fiction from Heinlein and contemporaries. A group of teenage "rangers"--on an interstellar journey but being trained in planetary survival--are suddenly thrust into peril on an alien world, where they will discover they have strengths they never considered. Pretty much on the nose for the genre right there.
That having been said, the prose was relatively flat, and the few focus characters were so strongly archetyped that they lacked any room to surprise. And putting our heroes into a mess but *with* thousands of years of advanced technology and customized genetics prevented any real concern for their predicament, ever. Heinlein would've had them lose everything but a belt knife and revert to Lord of the Flies; here, they stop a battle with a flare gun, slice a sword in half with a nanoblade, and shake off deadly poisons with just a tingle. So, it's a little dry--but a solid effort overall.

Loved it
Having read his Deathworlders serial for years I was very excited to listen to his first novel. It was different yet the same. Amazing character development that leaves you wanting more.

THIIISS 🤏 close to winning 5 stars
Ill start off by saying i really did like this book. The history of the people and the colony ship was created and explained with the perfect amount of explanation and detail, not too much not too little, the plot was engaging and entertaining and i really enjoyed all the characters and the amount of depth they had. The science and mechanics behind all the spaceship and future tech stuff was well within the realm of the believable. The way they had semi-realistic standards for that reminded me of 'the expanse' technology and space mechanics but maybe a bit more fantastical.
The characters mainly make informed thought out decisions and are generally relatable and respectable in that regard which is something that is very important to me in books (and is actually the reason it lost a star at the end, to be explained in a bit), if the author makes the character make a bunch of dumb decisions just to have them stumble into lazily written conflict as their only plot device it does nothing but annoy me and make me lose all intrest and respect in the character and story as a whole so im glad this book stayed away from that. SO coming to the reason this book ended up losing a star at the end for me.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The book was going so great i was really enjoying it the whole way thru and definitely was deserving of a 5 star rating up until around an hour left when the final conflict was wrapping up there were several slap dash lazily written illogical irrational unbelievable decisions and actions that took place that jarred me out of the story and had me scratching my head ... for one the bad guys are storming the good guys and before any real fighting can get going the over powered humans put a stop to it just by being millenia ahead of the settlers technology wise and genetically superior. So they got them dead to rights surrounded and the bad guys would most definitely give up or be slaughtered right? Nope for SOME inexplicable reason when they had already WON the 2 scarless dudes are like lets have an honor battle to the death to decide who wins.... Wuuuut? Um we got these dudes surrounded with guns and had the jump on their plans the whole time. Why? They lost. Kill the 2 leaders if needed and the crew would most def surrender. So that was just plain stupid but i guess the author wanted a final fight scene or whatever so i guess id be willing to let it slide. But THEN after that duel is done and a SECOND duel is done and the good guys have won and everything is settled THEN the humans (who have instant communication thru their ear coms and who have already proved they are keep tabs on the goings on at all times and should be apprised of the situation and know that things just got settled and the situation is delicate) come out of nowhere and drop a bunch of soldiers from air ships and surround the already nervous jumpy aliens pointing guns at them.... ummm.. why? So they honestly didnt know everything was good? Why didnt they ask why wasnt amber updating them with a play by play? They had to know that was a stupid idea to jump in outa nowhere into a delicate situation like that. So then Roy gets stabbed with a poison dagger but ends up okay and the alien guy thats been shown time and again how powerful the humans are and was JUST demonstrated they have ships that FLY decides to uselessly stab the huge guy that could crush his skull with his bare hands with a poison dagger possibly killing him knowing the people in flying ships would hunt him down and get revenge if he dies and on top of that STEAL HIS U-TOOL???? AGAIN??? And why did amber stop nic from killing him after he obviously tried to kill her brother? Ugh. Just so stupid. So many stupid lazy bs decisions one after another it was just a really big shame because the rest of the book was very enjoyable but it ended with a bunch of garbage. Still a good book over all and well worth your time i just really hope the author doesnt make that kind of sloppy writing a habit.

Could not get past the heavy British accent
I tried, but for the first time I could not engage in the story because of the narrator's heavy British accent. The story was not compelling enough to overcome the narrator for me.

Can't wait for book 2!
It's not the Deathworlders (would love to get an audible copy of that!) but it's excellent nonetheless. So much more story to tell with an interesting universe. Ican't wait for book 2!

Slow start but keep going!
This audiobook starts out fairly slow and juvenal, but stay with it ... it will start speeding up as the back-story fills in the intellectual gaps! I look forward to the next book!

Pretty Good
I thought this book was pretty good, though not as good as the author’s Deathworlders series. Stakes and tension tended to be low, but the concept is fun and seeing as this is the first book in the series and seems to mostly be setup, I can excuse that. Writing quality is great and the narration is good, though I would have preferred it be narrated by Zren who has been reading the Deathworlders series on YouTube. Solid book, and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Sci-Fi at it's best
Not only plausible and thoroughly considered, through both the setting and vibrant personalities of its characters, Dandelion presents and plays with the ideas sitting at the limit of human potential.
Simply gotta love it.

Great Start
Loved the story start to finish. Once the characters and motivations are introduced, there's a slow feed of mysteries running through the story, which keeps you wanting to get to the next revelation.
This is an excellent start to a series, and I hope I don't have to wait too long for a sequel.
