Sintesi dell'editore

When the King family moves over from England to live in America, they say they have made the move so that Alex can make a new start after being made redundant. They seem to be a nice enough family, and they are soon accepted by the Kendalsett community where Alex is going to work as a mechanic in his own business. His wife, Linz, becomes a mobile hairdresser, and she has soon built up a sizeable clientele.

Their teenage children, Gemma and Jack, were not that keen to come over but were persuaded that it would be best to get as far away from Newcastle as possible so that they could make a new start.

But what secrets do they hide? Did they have anything to do with the murder of the young girl who died shortly before they left? And why suddenly is there a murder in the area they have moved into, which has never known a murder before?

Is one of them responsible for these murders? Or is it more than one of them? This audiobook will hold you in its grip from beginning to end and keep you guessing right up to the end. Each member of the family carries a secret with them; only it might not be the same one. If you enjoy crime thrillers, then Crime: A Small Town with Big Secrets is for you!

Read like a movie trailer

I read at listen to at least one audio book a week and I definitely have favorite narrators but I have to say if I ever see a book by this narrator again I’ll have to give it a hard pass. The whole book was read either completely without inflection or like the sentences he was reading were questions. It was almost like the entirety of the book was read as if it were a bad movie trailer. He narrated every scene like it was a question. Over all the story was okay but it took me a full week to listen to this short story because I couldn’t get passed the way it was being read.

Loved The Characters

I love all the interesting and quirky characters in this mystery. The mystery develops with a number scary occurrences. It has you hanging on, wondering who to trust, and watching a number of interesting relationship s develop. It was a fun audiobook, and I want more to see what does happen to some of my favorites. If you like a good mystery, set in a tropical setting, you will love this book.

A Thriller

I don't usually like the crime books but have enjoyed the few I have got in the past. ‘’A Small Town with Big Secrets’’, in my opinion, a great crime thriller. I loved the characters. I loved their craziness and their thought process. Overall, I enjoyed the book and look forward to more books by the author.

Five Stars With A Thanks!

This crime story is very clever -- and so rich in atmosphere and characterization that they don't feel too short! I generally prefer novels to short stories, but this story is so excellent, it kept me fully engrossed.

9 minutes in and I cried Uncle...

I know what you’re thinking, nine minutes isn’t enough time to give a book a fair shake… But when you consider that there was only one hour left, I decided to cut my losses.
To be fair,I have no idea if this story line was good or not... I was too busy being absolutely annoyed by the narrator. Where did you get this guy?
I honestly cannot believe this man got paid for this job… He literally reads with all the flare of a seventh grader in front of a classroom. I know it was only five dollars, but I had to return it.

Read like one long synopsis with little depth...

...and don't get me started on the narration. How does this author get good reviews? I could barely get past the first flat, pedantic 25 minutes (that would be roughly a fifth of the length of the story) to find out. The consensus of positive reviews on Amazon and Audible seems to be that it's a quick read or listen. Someone mentioned it was like leaving a television on for ambient noise. Weird praise.

Didn’t Really Like It

This was a very short listen. Only a couple of hours. Actually that’s the best part. If it had been long I couldn’t have finished it.
The narrator was boring. I’m used to narrators who use different voices for different people. He just used his plain American voice even though the characters were English.
The story is unbelievable and the ending even more so.
I don’t recommend this book.
