“‘The Wild Swans’ is an old classic. ‘The Elf Who Saved Christmas’ may be a new one. Old and new are freely mixed in this intriguing collection read by celebrities, albeit names that most kids won't know (except for the newly hot Betty White). As name actors, the narrators all have appealing voices, and sometimes a connection to the material. Sandy Duncan, for instance, played Peter Pan on Broadway and here reads ‘Peter Pan,’ the collection’s longest story. British actor Michael York is the only actor to read twice, and it's a joy to hear him handle both ‘The Wild Swans’ and ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker.’ The celeb/classics concept is continued on two more Classics of Childhood volumes.” ( AudioFile)

Utterly weird and scary version of jack the beanstalk

This is a terrifying vindictive and pretty violent telling of jack the beanstalk. Don’t recommend for small children. Full of threats of dire punishment and death. While perhaps it’s more true to the original— really regretting playing this for my small child. I wish audible would screen this stuff better and put advisories on frightening content that’s supposed to be “for children”.

Advise against use in classroom

Be careful if you’re using in educational setting, this version calls one of the characters an “ass” …. Most of my Kinders missed it but one girl came and tattled on Audible. 🤣

Production is terrible.

I adore these stories from childhood. BUT background music is far too loud. Overwhelming the spoken word so much it is often difficult to hear the words.
