Sintesi dell'editore

The music we listen to, the movies we watch - they're all telling us to keep chasing love and that we'll finally be happy when we find it. But is love really all we need?

The love that the world tells us to pursue is all about self, about following your heart’s desires. But what is the Christian worldview on love? When we follow Jesus, we realize that he invites us to reorient the focus of our lives, so instead of chasing love primarily for our own happiness, we are first and foremost to give love - to God and to others.

In Chasing Love, Sean McDowell will invite listeners into Jesus’ radical, upside-down approach to love, and in doing so, he’ll answer some of the toughest questions we’re asking about love today: How does Jesus speak to singleness? What does the Gospel say about LGBTQ issues? Can sexual sin truly be forgiven? What if I’m not happy in my marriage?

Excellent Resource for Parents (and People Who Are Single)

As a father of 6, I decided to read this book as my kids are in or interning into their teens. Sean does an excellent job of laying out God’s plan for sex and sexuality. I will be purchasing copies for my kids so we can walk through this book together.

Chasing Love by Sean McDowell - Loved it!!

Only thing that would have made this better would have been Seans narration. I have met Sean and would have meant even more with his narration. It was great as for the content. Thank you.

McDowell tell it how it is.

This book addresses a wide variety of today’s issues and topics considering Biblical Marriage, singleness, the difference between the two and if one is better than the other which they aren’t, the differences of being free and thinking one is free, Biblical sexual Ethics, how and when we as parents should address such matters to our children, purity culture, what love really is and means and how to love one another as stated in the Bible. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25 [ESV] comes up as one of the many Biblical passages and one of my favorites to truly love one spouse. Something today’s youth and mind you even most adults’ gets confused, the overuse and warping the word ‘love’ which actually provides, protects and would go as far as even sacrificing yourself for your spouse. McDowell also debunks various other myths that have been common sayings in today’s societies. Such myths such as: if singleness is too easy or difficult compared to those who are married and if they’re truly have no family at all. (Spoiler they aren’t) and the issues key issues of sex. He addresses not just the harm and damages pornography does, but also the collateral damage it does to those who are enticed and affected by it. As a former porn addict I can affirm that McDowell hits the details spot-on. What I also loved about this book is that after every chapter there are some key and hard questions that McDowell addresses. Other sensitive topics such as homosexuality, the dangers of living together before marriage albeit cohabitation, issues on same-sex marriages, transgenderism, sexual abuse and how to deal and communicate with one that opens up about this sensitive issue. In the end McDowell inspires us to take Jesus’ sexual ethic to the streets by seeing every human being in the image of God, worthy of dignity, value respect, love and inspiring others to do the same (discipleship) by becoming YouTube content creators, (Biblical) counselors and helping Organizations that battle sex-trafficking (just to name a few). Something I’m taking to heart. I would like to recommend this book to both Christians and non-Christians to understand and know God’s purpose of marriage, singleness and sex and to honor God with our bodies and our souls by living out our lives as stated in the Bible.

Good speaker

Sean is an excellent speaker and has the perfect background to discuss these topics. The book begins a bit dry but gets there 3/4 of the way through.

I encourage anyone interested in this topic to listen to Sean McDowell speak either on youtube or other podcasts. You will get a lot of the same content, but in my opinion, in a more entertaining and real way.

Relevant Biblical Perspective

This book was easy to listen to call. I enjoyed the commentary on current hot topics dealing with sexuality, while remaining true to a biblical basis of love created by God.

So Good!!

Not the typical Christian book on sex. It doesn’t treat single people like losers. Marriage is not the goal of Christianity here. Full of truth backed by the Bible.
