Sintesi dell'editore

Owner of the Crewel World needlework shop and part-time sleuth Betsy Devonshire heads for the Minnesota north woods to renovate an old cabin. But beneath the awful linoleum is something even uglier - the skeleton of a Nazi. Betsy's investigation yields the site of a former German POW camp, a mysterious crocheted rug, and an intricately designed pattern of clues to a decades-old crime.

One of the best Needlecrafts! (And performers)

What about Susan Boyce’s performance did you like?

I'm so glad to be back in Susan Boyce's performance of this series. She is a terrific narrator, and gets characters of all ages, genders, and personalities to come alive. I was disappointed by the few books in the middle of this series that were read by other narrators, but knowing I would get back to her was incentive to keep listening.

Any additional comments?

I think this is one of the best of the Needlecraft mysteries. Ferris is good, but she gets a little long-winded in some of her books. This one comes back to crafty, concise writing, with a pretty good balance of needlecraft information (perhaps not quite enough, but pretty good).

This whole series has drawn me back into crochet (with thoughts about some of the other needlework I've done), and there were some intriguing tidbits in this book about patterns that I'd love to see, though she only links to a cross-stitch pattern (not my cup o' tea - I'm a free form crewel work or crochet kind of gal).

Too Sweet

Maybe it's me, but the plot wasn't much and easy to figure out -- the cops looked like idiots -- one major clue was obvious to a middle school kid -- and the soap opera -- which was used to stuff the book -- was repetitive and DULL.

Thank goodness Susan Boyce is back!

I enjoy this series immensely and am working my way through it, book by book. I sorely missed the voice of Susan Boyce over the last several books and am glad to see she is back.

Although an interest in various types of needlework may seem to make these books more enjoyable, it's not really required. Fun, cozy series. Love the characters and the Minnesota settings.

WONDERFUL MYSTERY

What did you love best about Buttons and Bones?

THE HOOK IS SET WITHIN THE FIRST CHAPTER AND IT ONLY GETS BETTER FROM THERE. A REAL THRILLER.

Any additional comments?

A WONDERFUL STORY AND WORTH THE CREDIT.

Really annoying children's voice

Slow moving, focus on Minnesota. But the characters of the children, and the narrator's portrayal is so annoying I could hardly listen. Its not "cute" its irritating.

Enjoyed the series again

This is the first book that I have listened to since book #10. I didn’t listen to #11 and 12 because of the narrator and #13 because I don’t like witches and witchcraft. I was glad to listen to Susan Boyce again though Godwin still doesn’t sound right. The plot was simple and I guessed what happened halfway through the story but I still enjoyed it. I will be listening to the next book.

Awesome

Monica had Betsy going back and forth in this one. It was definitely a surprise ending, twisting back and forth with possibilities. Excellent.

Great story

Monica Ferris has outdone herself with this one. Thought I had it figured out, I was wrong. I highly recommend this book.

nice cozy read

this had enough to be a nice little cozy read. I enjoyed the characters and the plot was easy enough to follow along and twisting enough to stay interested. I enjoy this series very much.

Not very interesting

I've read a few books by this author. This one is really far-fetched: why would a knitting shop owner want to solve a 50 year old mystery and start throwing her weight around (specially of course since I knew the solution immediately)?
The heroine is the usual bossy boots - who interestingly answers her phone while dealing with customers...
Passed the time agreeably enough though - and I learnt what Minne means in Minnesota.
