Liked it but didn't love it...

I feel like violet is just desperate. She keeps saying she don't need anybody but her actions are different. I don't like how dectective cooper is treating her whether he's frustrated or not. I would have already went above his head and kicked his ass after he grabbed my arm. I honestly thought the story was gonna go in the direction of doc wasn't sure about him being a stepdad figure and breaking it off with violet. Then cooper comes in and confesses his dying love for violet. Since it doesn't seem it's going that way I think coop and violet need to work together and not separate and coop making threats to a woman, that's just not tough2to me. And can we please make violet believe in ghost now for Petes sake!!!!!!!!

Fun and Intriguing

This is a great series and I thoroughly enjoy it. I can't wait for the next book to see where the story goes.

Can't stop reading.

Borderline silly stories and characters. The sex scenes are almost ridiculous and I end up skipping over quite a few. But, for the life of me I can't stop reading. I'm going to take a break after the free books but I know I'll be back for more.

Still enjoyable but....

I really am enjoying this series. It’s becoming somewhat predictable as far as villains are concerned, however I always look forward to the next book.

definitely problematic

First thing, there were multiple mispronunciations. Second, Cooper has turned into a petulant, whiny bully. The character is occasionally funny; he is dry and without a sense of humor. This brings me to the overall immaturity of many characters; the cops stoop to name calling and Violet's obnoxious coworker Ray is getting to be a very tiring character. The banter and sex scenes between Doc and Violet are really awful to have to listen to. I have to wonder why a grown woman would tolerate such toxic people around her. She doesn't have to engage with Ray, and why would she even talk to a sister who is toxic, let alone let her near her children (it stands to reason that anyone who uses them for shoplifting should be off limits).
The set-up for the next book seems to involve Violet's ex and very possibly her horrible sister. There is still the mystery of the book and the demon-like creatures.

Really Good

This was book 4 in the "Deadwood" series. This book was better than the last one. Violet "Sparky" Parker has a lot going on in her life. Violet ends up front and center as a prime suspect in the murder of her boss who was found at the bottom of a mine and Violet knows it wasn't just an accident that somebody had murdered her boss and she intends on finding the killer. I loved the interaction between her and Cooper and all of there back and fourth. I also like her relationship with Doc. On the job front she is still trying to sale the old hotel to a new client who looks and dresses like Abe Lincoln. There are multiple mysteries going on that weave together and make a very intriguing story. I love that Doc and Sparky relationship is making progress and I even liked the disagreements that these two have. They both have issues but are trying to make it work and communicate better. And I agree with Doc, she has to stop keeping him at arms length if she wants to make a real go at this. This was a good read with all the kooky weird characters in it. This was a really good read that I listened to. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.

Love this series

Can't buy these books in this series down. One think I am not liking is the Albano that just vanish in the air. I do not like fake not teal books and stories so I hope they drop this and keep rolling and not adding more in the stories.

LOVE the idea of this story...

...but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve listened to 4 books, sort of, on 2x speed (not because of the narrator; she’s great) and skipping through at least a third of each book. I like the idea of a struggling single mom getting caught up in weird ghost situations. I like the idea of a developing relationship with a guy who can sense the ghosts. I like the way the overarching story continues on with each book.
But... I hate the supposedly funny, demeaning situations Violet is constantly put in. She doesn’t know the word No. Not to her harassing coworker. Not to her spoiled snotty kids. Not to her clients. Not to her chauvinistic boss who literally dresses her up to use her as sexy advertising bait. And very much not to the local cop who harasses and verbally abused her every very frequent time he speaks with her. Oh, and the guy she’s ‘dating’ observes the harassment and quips a snarky joke to embarrass her. I think it’s supposed to be funny. As a plot device it is way way overused. Another overused plot device is the interruption technique. Pretty much every time crucial info is about to be disclosed, there is an interruption and we are left waiting several pages, or yet another looong internal monologue, to find out what will move the story forward. I’m kind of over it. And I am also over waiting for Violet, or one of her loved ones, to stick up for her and prevent her from being used, manipulated, publicly humiliated, or verbally abused.

Gets better with each book

I love the weirdness and adventure that Violet has, and relationship with Doc is fantastic. This author has created such a funny, quirky, and adventurous series and cannot put it down.

hooked on deadwood...

We started listening to these stories while on a road trip and got hooked. Drags a little in parts, but entertaining nonetheless.
