What is up, citizen. Understory Bard here, Wade Skalsky. The productivity crowd says do the same thing every day or you'll never get momentum. Writers on a six-day schedule, lawyers grinding four to six billable hours a day, all year. For a Type A brain that sameness is a warm blanket. For mine it never worked. My brain runs in waves. Up, down, resting, rabbit holes. And when I'm down a rabbit hole I'll put my focus up against anyone's.
So the key isn't consistency. It's being consistent in your inconsistency. Pick a few high-leverage projects. Don't chase every dopamine hit (calligraphy one week, a pottery wheel in the garage the next), because that hit is not proof you're on the right track. Then keep making forward progress across all of them, at whatever pace you can.
My proof: Father Mike Schmitz's Bible in a Year. I listened on dog walks, ten minutes here, a whole episode there, weeks off. Two and a half years later I'm on day 350-something with a stack of notes. Doing it at any pace beats doing nothing, every time. Now it's the rosary. Swap in your book or your business.
Work the whole garden a little and by the end of the season you've got a garden. It's a risk, and it means not running your life according to Hoyle. But it's a strategy. From the garage bunker, talk soon.
