Dim the lights and journey back to the land between the rivers, where the world's first cities rose from the mud of Mesopotamia and with them, some of humanity's oldest ideas about gods, spirits and hidden knowledge. In this episode of The Sleeping Historian, we explore the mysterious world of Sumerian occultism. We'll meet the Anunnaki, follow the goddess Inanna on her descent into the underworld, and trace how these ancient myths echoed through later tales of Watchers and angels. Then we'll follow their long shadow through Babylon and the Hermetic tradition, into the world of Aleister Crowley and his circle, the strange story of the Simon Necronomicon, and the modern movements that still draw on Sumer today.Told in a calm, gentle voice, this is history to learn from, relax with, or simply fall asleep to.Chapters:00:00:00 Introduction and Welcome00:03:11 The World Before00:11:38 The Anunnaki00:20:21 Inanna's Descent00:29:09 Watchers and Angels00:34:51 From Babylon to the Hermetic Tradition00:41:19 Crowley and Friends00:46:58 The Simon Necronomicon00:53:32 ModernistsSweet dreams, and thank you for listening.#History #AncientHistory #Sumer #Mesopotamia #Occult #HistoryForSleep #SleepPodcast
