Growth does not always look like a breakthrough.

Sometimes it looks like recognizing an old pattern sooner, resting before you burn out, asking for help, changing your mind, or catching yourself before you head down a familiar road.

In the season one finale, Amanda reflects on something she has experienced from both sides of the therapy room: the moment when something finally clicks. As a therapist, she has watched clients make connections in their own time. As a client, she learned that professional experience did not let her skip her own process, including one session where her therapist repeatedly reminded her, “Nope. That’s not a feeling.”

Knowing what to do and being able to practice it in our own lives are not the same thing. Creating I’m Amanda, I’m Listening has also held up a mirror to her own life. Every conversation about rest, asking for help, people-pleasing, perfectionism, grief, and overwhelm has given her another chance to ask herself the questions she asks listeners.

Real growth isn’t having everything figured out. It is continuing to notice, choose, practice, and begin again.

In This Episode, You’ll Discover

  • Why knowing the “right” answer doesn’t make it easier to live
  • What Amanda learned from being both therapist and client
  • Why professional knowledge doesn’t remove the need for support
  • How old patterns can reappear after significant growth
  • Why growth is often about interrupting a pattern, not eliminating it
  • How to recognize progress: recovering sooner, noticing earlier, having more choices
  • Personal growth as performance versus practice
  • How Amanda uses Notice, Choose, Carry as an ongoing practice
  • How to celebrate small wins without moving the goalposts
  • Why you don’t have to stop struggling before you recognize your progress

Reflection Questions

  • What do I recognize sooner now than I did before?
  • What choice can I make now that once felt harder?
  • What do I want to keep practicing, not because I’m failing at it, but because it matters to me?

You don’t need perfect answers. Just notice what comes up.

One Small Step
Finish these three sentences:

  • I notice sooner when...
  • I am getting better at...
  • I still want to practice...

Pay special attention to the second one. Before you explain it away or move on to what still needs work, let yourself acknowledge what has changed. Small is not insignificant. Small is often exactly how growth happens.

Ask Amanda
Did something from this season bring up a question? Maybe you’re noticing a pattern and aren’t sure what to do with it, or you know what you want to do differently but can’t get started. Send your question through the Ask Amanda form, and Amanda may answer it in a future episode.

Stay Connected
You don’t have to have it all figured out to be growing. Sometimes growth is noticing sooner, choosing differently, recovering faster, asking for help, resting, or taking one next step. And when you find yourself back on that familiar road, you can notice again. Choose again. Begin again.

There is no final exam. No A++. No graduation from being human.

Just practice. Small steps. Real growth.
