Summary

Why can't Christian families do the basic things Scripture commands of them? Chase sits down with Adam Madden, pastor in Brigham City, Utah, father of nine, and author of The Productive Household , for a conversation about the household as an economy. Adam moved his family to one of the least reached regions in the country, spent twenty-five years in pastoral ministry on the envelope system, and then bought a dog boarding business with no money down and leased a trout farm his kids could work. Along the way he came to a conviction: when a man goes to the Word and gathers up his duties as a husband and father, he does not need less time with his family. He needs more. They talk through Deuteronomy 6 and Ephesians 6 on leveraging content and context, the objective standard of 1 Timothy 3:4, why "family integrated" is a tool and not the goal, what baby steps actually look like for a two-income family that can't buy a farm, and Baxter's claim that there is no general reformation of the church without a reformation of the household.
