In the first two episodes we covered Ngoni's journey and what she built from her illness. This time, the sisters go deeper.
Ngoni opens by reading from the Book of Lament, a set of poems written in brain fog while she was unwell, mourning and wrestling with God. It sits inside her guided journal, A Gentle Healing Journal: The Body Remembers.
From there, Nyasha and Ngoni unpack what mental health actually means, and why it gets confused with mental illness. They talk about the difference between a bad day and a crisis, the hypervigilance that comes with chronic illness, and why "how are you?" is the hardest question to answer honestly. It's the question Nyasha spends the whole episode running from, and the one that finally catches up with her.
They also get into something harder: what being "the strong one" does to a person over time, how a family trained not to talk about feelings learned to talk again, and why physical illness is so much easier to discuss than mental health in many households.
Honest, funny in places, and it closes on what meaningful aftercare actually looks like once everyone else has moved on.
Episode 4 covers well-being.
