This episode argues that maintaining technology trust in the NHS requires continuous lifecycle governance rather than relying solely on initial procurement approvals or technical compliance. Initial assurance checks are insufficient because systems evolve, reliance deepens, and public or workforce confidence can deteriorate long after a contract is signed. To address this, the organisation must collect and analyse separate evidence regarding patient and staff experiences, ensuring engagement occurs while decisions can still be influenced. Vendor dependencies and high user reliance complicate oversight, meaning contracts must preserve exit options and the practical ability to intervene. Ultimately, leaders must treat a material loss of trust as a legitimate trigger for service redesign, suspension, or termination to protect institutional credibility and patient care.
