The SAVAK informant's phone call toppled his one-hundred-twenty plan
In this episode, we trace Bijan Jazani’s life from childhood courier to philosopher imprisoned in Evin, following the decisions and betrayals that shaped a clandestine network’s rise and unraveling. What choices and deceptions turned a plan for one hundred and twenty fighters into a single fatal transfer?
Person: Bijan Jazani
Date: April 19, 1975
Location: Hills above Evin Prison, Tehran
Event: Merger with Razm Avaran promising one hundred and twenty members
Person: Naser Aghayan (SAVAK informant)
- Born 1938 into a Tudeh Party household, Jazani began carrying secret messages at ten and trusted family networks.
- By the 1960s he studied philosophy, joined student politics, was arrested in 1965 for circulating underground material, and later completed a doctorate.
- Jazani merged his group with Razm Avaran in the mid-1960s after leader Abbas Sourky promised scale, weapons, and one hundred and twenty fighters.
- Naser Aghayan had infiltrated Razm Avaran as early as 1963 and was present during the merger and planning meetings.
- On April 19, 1975, nine bound prisoners including Jazani were taken from Evin to a hillside-his writings from four books written in prison remained after his transfer.
