On a weekend hike at Pere Marquette State Park, Dave stopped at a sixty-foot cliff where the only sign of life was a burst of green growing out of a single crack. He confesses up front that he spent years building a wall just like that rock face, out of six deployments and Jumpmaster dependability, and that being steady is not the same as being unbreakable. From there the episode moves through three passages: Exodus 33, where the rock and the cleft belong to God and not to Moses; John 10:10, where abundant life means life in the Shepherd's care rather than easy circumstances; and Psalm 61:2, where David asks to be led to "the rock that is higher than I." If you've been the dependable one for so long that you've forgotten how to say you're struggling, this conversation is an invitation to stop spending your strength on appearances and bring the crack to the One who already knows it's there. Resilience may look like getting back up, or it may look like finally asking for help.
