Les Lutins de l’Enfer welcome Insomnium guitarist Ville Friman from Helsinki about the band’s 10th studio album, “Netherworlds,” describing a writing process that began with demos in late 2024/early 2025, ramped up through autumn, was refined through January–February, and recorded from February to late May, with release set for October 16. Friman discusses balancing continuity and evolution after 10 albums, ignoring conflicting fan expectations, and how ideas are workshopped and sometimes discarded. Friman explains Finland’s generally melancholic metal character, the globalization of scenes via the internet, and why Insomnium now has three guitarists, noting his university professor role limits touring. He reflects on touring realities, metal’s current diversity and challenges in standing out, and plugs Insomnium’s tour with Amorphis, including Montreal’s Beanfield Theater on November 18. Ville also weighs in on the ongoing worldwide survey of metalheads' favorite candies!
