Search Console tells you plenty about pages that aren't in the index, and two labels are confused constantly. They sound alike. They are not.

Discovered – currently not indexed

Google knows the URL exists, usually from a sitemap or a link, but hasn't visited it. Nothing has been judged yet.

This is mostly a priority and capacity problem. Typical causes: a new site, a very large number of URLs, a slow server, or a page with almost no internal links.

What helps:

  • Add internal links from pages that are already indexed and get traffic.
  • Remove low-value URLs that compete for crawling.
  • Make sure the server responds quickly.
  • Optionally submit the URL again. A free tool such as Indxer Online can give a single page an additional prompt.

Crawled – currently not indexed

Google visited and decided not to keep the page, at least for now. This is a quality signal, and submission tools will not fix it.

Typical causes: thin text, near-duplicate content, a page that adds nothing beyond what the site already has, or a template that looks the same as hundreds of others.

What helps:

  • Add real, specific information the page lacked.
  • Merge near-duplicate pages into one stronger page.
  • Improve internal linking so the page looks important.
  • Wait, then request indexing again once the page has meaningfully changed.

A quick decision rule

If Google hasn't looked, improve access and signals. If Google looked and passed, improve the page.

Spending money or time on submission for a "Crawled" page is the most common indexing mistake, because it treats a content problem like a discovery problem.

How long should you wait?

For a healthy site, a week or two is normal. Months of "Discovered" on many pages usually means a structural issue worth auditing.
