Today we remember Venerable Sabbatius, a humble monk who sought solitude and holiness on the remote Solovki Island. His life was marked by deep asceticism, gentle love for his brothers, and a steadfast commitment to God’s will. Saint Sabbatius first lived at the Saint Cyril of White Lake monastery before moving to Valaam and finally to the uninhabited Solovki Island. There, with Saint Germanus, he established a monastic presence in harsh northern conditions, overcoming temptations and hardships through prayer and faith.
