- The reel-to-reel at the tower was a Stellavox SP-7 manufactured between 1972 and 1984, with recently cleaned heads and new capstan rubber.
- The Continental Electronics transmitter had been declared non-functional in 2010 and left at auction, yet it was warm inside a padlocked county equipment shed.
- Officer Dennis Coyle arrived twelve minutes after Quinn called the police and heard the unmodulated carrier on his car radio.
