A century-old jar sealed eight feet down in a well held a dry folded note that read "She did not fall," reopening a case where a twenty-four-year-old woman was buried as though her absence required no witnesses. - The jar had been sealed inside the well for 109 years and was perfectly dry when opened.

- Lauren Holmes arrived in Aldersham spring 1899, was 24 years old, and described the town as "Lonesome" in a letter dated September 2, 1899.
- The Petrie household ledger entry for November 5, 1899 reads "L. Holmes no longer in our employ, departed," written over an erasure, and nearby pages show six weeks of water damage ending November 16, 1899.
