- Romanos married his daughter Helena to the young Constantine VII and then secured his own coronation as co-emperor in December 920.
- Christopher was placed in command of the palatine guard while still a teenager, controlling access to the emperor.
- In May 921 Christopher was crowned co-emperor and ranked above Constantine VII; gold coins were struck showing Romanos and Christopher together with Constantine absent.
- Christopher’s daughter Maria was renamed Irene and sent to marry the son of Tsar Peter of Bulgaria as a diplomatic move.
